The jubé (choir screen) of Rheims Cathedral, built 1417, demolished 1744. It survived longer than most cathedral screens in Catholic countries because it contained a throne platform for the coronation rite of the French monarch.
Yes! It was in the 2nd bay of the nave! The high altar was kept in the same position as the Carolingian church. What we think of as the architectural choir was a second choir that was largely used for episcopal councils under the archbishop of Rheims, with his throne in the apse
Coronations at Rheims continued to be a "bit of a do" into the Early Modern period (Louis XIV, 1654; Louis XV, 1722). The medieval jubé is under there somewhere
By Louis XVI in 1775 they where just build a massive platform on the site of the jubé along with loads of classical galleries (rather than people standing in the triforium which seems a bit dangerous)
probably best better not bother with this one, eh
love how in the Louis XV one they not only have people in the triforium, but have opened the clerestory to the sills
they must've put platforms outside because it's not like you can stand on the aisle roofs
here's a late 16thc plan of Rheims btw in case you were skeptical. the high altar really is under the crossing!!
this is just me picking the first French cathedral I thought of to address how simple their liturgical arrangements were and going down a dumb rabbit hole

maybe I should have chose Amiens which I know at least still has its choir stalls!!
though not Amiens' jubé (built 1260s-70s/demolished 1755). not sure what the sad potted plant in front of the current sad ensemble is about. but the stalls (c.1510s) are nice to have
anyway back to Rheims. more images: facade, counter-facade, nave and the jubé from late 16thc compendium in the BNF you can flick through here: archivesetmanuscrits.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cc5…
hmm hello
