Thread: There’s a UK account that claims to represent Gay, Bisexual & Lesbian people. It is, in fact, a Transphobic far right hate group. Many people follow it. I know some are monitoring the hate, but others prob think it’s just another Gay org. Let’s take a look.
Firstly a v short history. The roots of modern gay liberation (many use the term ‘Queer’, but others find it offensive) are in the Stonewall Riots. Although the police were violently attacking Lesbians & Gay men, it was the Trans women present who had had enough & fought back.
Without Trans women there would have been no riots & the fight for LGBTQI human rights probably would have taken significantly longer, more would have been imprisoned, tortured & murdered. (Marsha P Johnson & Sylvia Rivera) pinknews.co.uk/2018/06/28/wha…
The whole rationale of the LGBTQI community is solidarity in diversity That’s evident in Ireland where LGBTQI, abuse survivors, feminists, minorities & Travellers are all part of Pride. Standing together, stronger, when the law, the system & the general population hate(d) you.
So back to the English hate group. Who are they? Essentially they are part of the nexus of far right & ethno-nationalist groups funded by US far right foundations & Kremlin ‘chaos’ politics: pinknews.co.uk/2020/04/03/lgb…
They are viciously Transphobic & platform hate mongers who have been ejected from social media. They trumpet their supposed ‘Queerness’ yet are dominated by Cis-straight people, especially T3RFs. A feature of the latter is their online viciousness.
A quick review of comments under their Tweets show the worst kind of Fascism & Transphobia (indeed many commenters are also viciously homophobic, Xenophobic, anti-Semitic, Islamophobic & anti-Traveller).
They are a thirst-trap for bigots.
A sign of this group’s Fascist strategy is that they have been taken up by the Irish hate-blog Gr!pt as well as the notoriously bigoted English Sp3ctator Magazine.
The only reason this group & their social media presence exists is to be Transphobic. That Twitter allows such a group in their Dublin/Amsterdam server farms is contrary to EU & Irish human rights law. I have reported them & hope you will too as they are in breach of Twitter T&C
And for the bigots eagerly scanning Twitter to defend hate & be Transphobic: three FACTs: 1. Transphobia was a Nazi strategy 2. Sex & gender are a continuum 3. Science makes clear that Transphobia is bigotry: blogs.scientificamerican.com/voices/stop-us…
And as the T3RFs are not known for their intellectual wattage: Only Peer reviewed science with references from respected journals (such as given in the link above) count. There are a myriad of bad blogs, dodgy ‘institutions’, bad experiments & religious ‘studies’ that are trash.
Twitter is great for minorities as they are able to create communities, feel less isolated & talk. Unfortunately it’s also a place for bigots. Trans people get shocking abuse here every day. Be an ally, put your pronouns in your profile; she/her; he/him; Sí/í etc
Just as there is no debate about being gay (unless you’re a far right bigot); there is no debate about being Transexual - unless you’re a far right bigot. It has been scary watching media in the UK platforming Transphobia - however the majority of Brits reject this hate.
Older LGBTQI people have seen all the dog whistles, the religious bigotry, the hate, the tiny minority that identify with their oppressors, the far right attacks, the violence, the pseudo-science etc before. It was wrong then, it is wrong now. Report these bigots.
The danger of online Transphobia is that it supports real life violent attacks. 331 Trans people were murdered in the US alone last year - most of whom were African-American. We all need to say #NotInMyName

Thread: For many this Pride is one of the scariest of modern times. Criminalisation of Trans kids & adults, banning of Pride, media campaigns against LGBT+ ppl, violence & persecution are found from the EU, thru the UK to the US.
I want to show how LGBT+ ppl are heroic.
Willem Arondeus (1894-1943) was a Dutch artist & writer, a proud gay man, a founder member of the Dutch Resistance & Righteous Among the Nations for saving Jewish lives.
He demonstrated that LGBT+ ppl are not cowards & will not be cowed.
He grew up in Amsterdam. When he was 17 he told his parents that he was gay & they later kicked him out for refusing to hide it (aged 18). To eke out a living he painted, created illustrations & wrote. He discovered in himself a fierce independence.
It amazes me the number of ppl with ‘Christian’ in their bios who seem to be completely unaware of Jesus being Gay. There are gonna be some awkward conversations at the Pearly Gates [John 13:23]*
Happy Pride!
*given that entire ‘churches’ are based on Leviticus & a disputed version of who can shag who, it’s amazing that Christianity overlooks how often JC is shown as Gay for Jonno. Leviticus, BTW, also says it’s AOK to own slaves, sinful to wear cotton-Lycra jocks & eat surf & turf…
Matthew 7:5 has some relevant side-eye
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
The stupidity of ethnic English nationalism really is breathtaking. Europe is not miles away -
the British border is in Ireland [no wonder these tulips tied themselves in knots over it!]. In light of that ignorance, not knowing that GBS is Irish, is relatively minor!
I think that colonial history should be compulsory in English schools. Being a nationalist is the norm in most of Europe. However being an ethnic nationalist, with its emphasis on exclusion, is [to put it mildly] problematic. Ask anyone who has studied the period 1939-45.
Just to be clear Matthew was being humorous & I was agreeing with him. Today I’ve really realised how few ppl actually read threads & jump on the first Tweet with their opinion. Having said that I doubt anyone will read this 😉 .@DrMatthewSweet
Thread: To celebrate Pride Month I put together a celebration of LGBT+ artists & writers who have been central to Irish culture & our sense of who we are. Given past persecution it’s impressive how important they have been or are presently!

Thread: I love using bold vibrant colours, pattern & clarity of line in my ink on paper drawings. Sometimes they look deceptively simple, but if you zoom in you can see why they can take up to eight hours to draw. Here’s some more drawings
