It's a holiday weekend, and lots of people across America are either temporarily relocating or permanently moving to new places this month — here's what you need to know about voting if you've gone off to college or just moved to a new state. A thread 🧵businessinsider.com/how-to-vote-af…
For those who have temporarily relocated: if you’ll be away from your county on Election Day, you can vote by absentee ballot in all 50 states. Especially if you’re voting from another state, request your ballot now (DO NOT put this off!) and return it with plenty of time
This is the really important part: many people have set up temporary USPS mail forwarding, but many states don't allow USPS to forward ballots. This means you have to fill out an application to get yours sent to where you’ll be voting from, not the address where you're registered
If you’re voting absentee from another state (as I will be this fall), it’s very important to carefully follow the instructions, SIGN your ballot envelope, and put in the mail in advance of your state’s deadline for ballots to be received/postmarked, do not leave it to chance!
If you’ve permanently moved: congratulations!! The first thing you’ll need to do is update your address and voter registration. Some states now have automatic voter registration, where if you get a driver’s license or interact with the DMV, you’ll be registered to vote
Most states now have online voter registration, but the online reg portal may not available to you if you haven’t gotten a driver’s license/state ID card in your new state yet. You can find the deadlines to register to vote in all 50 states + DC here:
businessinsider.com/voter-registra…
Next up, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with the rules in your new state for voting: do you need to bring an ID to the polls? Does your state have early voting? Will you be able to vote by mail due to the pandemic? Are there any restrictions for first-time voters?

New memo from Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon: “It’s a familiar story: Following Thursday night’s debate, the beltway class is counting Joe Biden out. The data in the battleground states, though, tells a different story.” Image
O’Malley Dillon, cont’d: “On every metric that matters, data shows it did nothing to change the American people’s perception, our supporters are more fired up than ever, and Donald Trump only reminded voters of why they fired him four years ago.”
“If we do see changes in polling in the coming weeks, it will not be the first time that overblown media narratives have driven temporary dips in the polls. In 2012, we saw media coverage of [Obama's] first debate performance drive a large, but temporary, drop in his polling” Image

NEW: I spent the day talking to Democratic voters + volunteers at Biden's rally in Raleigh, NC
Their reactions to the debate couldn't be more different than the ongoing panic from some top Dems + pundits — some actually thought Biden did well
Our story:
19thnews.org/2024/06/biden-…
Janice Lynn, a voter from Raleigh, said she supports Biden president because she believes he is an “honorable man”
“Even if he does have age going against him, it’s not the end of the world,” she said of the debate. “He had some good moments.”
19thnews.org/2024/06/biden-…
“My reaction is different than everybody’s else’s,” said a voter from Willow Spring, NC. “I thought Joe did fine. I think he tried to answer the questions, address the issues and to relay his policy ideas … and he was derailed by his opponent.”

BREAKING: Democrat @marilynforAL has defeated Republican Teddy Powell, who just conceded in the special election for Alabama House District 10, a Huntsville-area swing district, by what looks like will be a pretty big margin (district was Trump +1, Doug Jones +5 in 2020) Image
@MarilynForAL Lands campaign says Alabama women "sent a clear message that will be heard in Montgomery and across the nation.
"Our legislature must repeal Alabama’s no-exceptions abortion ban, fully restore access to IVF, and protect the right to contraception."

@MarilynForAL Some quotes from Lands voters I spoke to last week....
“I’ve seen your ads, and you looked so sincere,” a 61 year old first-time voter told her. “And I just agree.”
“I hate what’s going on,” another said of GOP led abortion bans. “I really hate it.”

News: Over 60 House Dems, led by @DemWomenCaucus, are pressing top pharma distributor AmerisourceBergen for answers on reports the company won't distribute Mifeprex, the brand name for abortion drug mifepristone, to pharmacies in up to 31 states 19thnews.org/2023/05/aborti…
@DemWomenCaucus .@rmc031 reported in March that AmerisourceBergen, the sole distributor of Mifeprex in the US, had told corporate clients it wouldn't distribute the drug to pharmacies in 31 states — the company has not confirmed the reports or said what those states are 19thnews.org/2023/05/aborti…
@DemWomenCaucus @rmc031 “This one company could be a determining factor in whether women can access medication abortion, so our ask here is simple: lawmakers want to see their list of states where they do not plan to supply this medication to pharmacies," said @RepLoisFrankel 19thnews.org/2023/05/aborti…

New: I talked to first-term Michigan Democrat @RepScholten about how she wants Democrats to reclaim faith, freedom and "compassionate conservatism" going into 2024
“Our biggest mistake has been completely giving up that lane of faith,” she said. 19thnews.org/2023/05/hillar…
@RepScholten Scholten thinks her 13-point victory over a Trump-aligned candidate in November could be a blueprint:
"You don’t win by that margin just because people are rejecting something on the other side. We built something that attracted people to our message" 19thnews.org/2023/05/hillar…
@RepScholten "When I go to the prayer breakfast, it’s basically me, Lucy McBath and Ted Lieu who are the only ones there on the Democratic side. We just need to be engaging more on this issue — faith and freedom are so inextricably linked.”
