will media columns ever look into the deeply questionable ethics of withholding crucial reporting and information for non-fiction books before 180,000 people have died
are the book sales ever worth the additional deaths and trauma to millions of people
is there a park NYC media people can meet up at after work to silently drink together in a socially distanced manner because this deserves several of those to-go cocktails
I need to compartmentalize this to file something but February 7 is the same week I published a story on the MoCA fire and saw anti-Asian racism already starting to affect Chinatown due to cases abroad.
If Bob Woodward is doing any book publishing or press events for the book, he has to be asked repeatedly and without hesitation about the ethics of what he did and how he justifies it.
"you're an economics reporter, this is a media and politics story"
"have you considered how hard it is to be productive when thousands of people are blind with rage and still mourning the 180,000+ people in the US who have died from Covid-19"
Apologies to all the new followers for the interruption to doomscrolling and self-care reminders (don't forget to eat lunch), but I have been watching, writing and reporting Covid-19 updates since January and my early notice literally helped me get my job.

has anyone else switched to mentally preparing for a vaccine, normal travel, and a return to the office to take at least 9 to 12 more months
My family was supposed to take a cruise in late August and I've joked we'll take it in 2025. I would also like to meet my coworkers at some point.
The reason I bring this up is because imagining this long-term scenario, or worse, would not have been great for many people's mental health, especially if they live alone or lost their job.

I worry posting some of my freelance rates will expose how many times I was underpaid and should have negotiated harder instead of just saying yes again so I could just focus on doing the work and earning the money
the reality is after my fellowship was done at CJR, I had a corporate writing client, an unexpectedly large tax return from the Canadian government, lower-than-NYC rent by staying with my family in Toronto, and some savings I exhausted paying off my credit card
At one point, I had something like $90 in my bank account. I had to plead with a bank manager to let me cash and convert some USD cheques/checks, because they are normally held for 30 days at BMO. I have not contributed much to my long-term savings in five years.

I have some opinions on this, and I can tweet them, because I don't work for @axios: axios.com/fake-news-fix-…
I'm curious about CEO Jim VandeHei's definitions of "blatant opinion", especially with the @washingtonpost is grappling with the murder of one of their columnists, the UN's urgent report on climate change, and rights for trans Americans are at risk of being wiped out completely.
Why shouldn't journalists express opinions based on reporting, research and histories of behaviour, such as politicians grossly misusing government funds, bad cover stories about bone saws, and expansions in internment camps for children separated from their families?

has anyone considered how many facts are not being reported because American newsrooms have failed to reflect American demographics for nearly 50 years
what many people define as "objectivity" is really just "perspective of a college-educated centrist straight white male" and this is still the ideal candidate for many newsrooms despite many diversity efforts
we know from studies about the makeup of newsrooms staffs "college-educated centrist straight white male" make up the majority of management, investigative teams, sports desks, politics desks, and opinion pages. they also get paid and retained the most.
