This audio of Trump talking about how much worse COVID is than strenuous flus was on 2/7.

For @BulwarkOnline I wrote a timeline of Trump's public comments downplaying the virus and comparing it to the flu. It is shocking to see it in this context. thebulwark.com/the-coronaviru…
A month later on 3/6 Trump said this: "The percentage for the flu is under 1 percent. But this could also be under 1 percent...And you’re smiling when I say that. Who are you from, by the way?...I don’t watch CNN. That’s why I don’t recognize you." whitehouse.gov/briefings-stat…
Two weeks after Trump's comments to Woodward the CDC lead Nancy Messonnier spoke out to warn the public about the disruption to their lives that would be required. The stock market tanked. Trump shouted at staffers and silenced Messonnier. thebulwark.com/the-ten-weeks-…
One month after Trump's comments to Woodward he publicly admitted he was gaming the response to the virus when he forced Americans who contracted COVID to stay on a cruise ship because he didn't want "our numbers to double." thebulwark.com/the-ten-weeks-…
Jared Kushner said at a press conference that he was asked to "build a team" to address the logistics of the COVID threat on March 20th, 6 weeks after Trump's comments to Woodward. thebulwark.com/the-ten-weeks-…

I put together a timeline of Donald Trump’s “Costanzafied” press briefings. It’s not a lie if you believe it. thebulwark.com/a-timeline-of-…
The big Trump lie is about the China “travel ban.”
- It came after 45 countries & 3 major US carriers had already acted.
- It only banned foreign nationals which means throughout crisis you could fly direct from Beijing to US. Here’s a flight this wknd thebulwark.com/a-timeline-of-…
“The virus is the first force Donald Trump has ever met that is completely and totally immune to his bullshit.” thebulwark.com/a-timeline-of-…

"The notion that some of us think Buttigieg is not gay enough has an identifiable relationship to the facts."

This garbage was published in the NEW YORKER 1/ newyorker.com/news/our-colum…
What are those "facts?" Some gay people - the real queer ones - "never fit in." While others - the fake gays like Pete who live a life of "blending in" which make them essentially "straight." 2/ newyorker.com/news/our-colum…
Maybe if @mashagessen set aside the solipsism for a second and had one ounce of reflection on someone else's experience is they would have the blatantly obvious fucking realization that the "blending in" gays also had the experience of never fitting in.

I wrote a year-end reflection on how @Adaripp and Black Panther transcended our toxic tribalism and my personal journey to understanding the life-affirming side to identity politics. playboy.com/read/black-pan…
"As we look back on 2018, it is easy to decry “identity politics” and lament our fractured culture and decide every part of it needs to be thrown by the wayside. But that’s not possible. We can’t wish away what is hardwired into us." playboy.com/read/black-pan…
"The deep-seated urge to root (or vote) for someone who looks like you, or went to your school, or believes in your God, or salutes the same flag, is never going away." So we must figure out how to channel it for good. playboy.com/read/black-pan…

“let everyone participate, good & bad” sounds nice & is getting some praise among conservative pundits but...

Reality is social media platforms w/o moderation would be unbearable wastelands of spam, scams, porn, bullying & targeted harassment. Oh and nazis. It’s not viable . 1/
Unmoderated social media is also not commercially viable. Look at how Craigslist tanked because of it.

These are corporations with a duty to their shareholders. They can’t let people leave bc of harassment and scams in service of some utopian speech ideal. 2/
So some conservatives response to the corporate/free market argument is...nationalize the social media companies. This is the public square!!

Yes I’m sure a government tribunal of unelected bureaucrats will really bring about a free speech utopia! 3/
