.@jonkarl, one of the "all-stars" Trump recognized at the outset today: "Why did you lie to the American people?"

Trump: "What a terrible question. I didn't lie..."

Karl: "You went out and told the American public this is just like the flu!"
@jonkarl Trump says his downplaying in March was "very simple...I want to show a level of confidence. I want to show strength as a leader. And I want to show that our country is going to be fine one way or the other..

"There was no lie here. We're leading."
@jonkarl Trump, now with the death toll nearing 200K, schools virtual and football fan-free:

"We’re rounding the final turn...we have done a phenomenal job."
.@PhilipRucker presses Trump on why he told Woodward he knew it was airborne but wouldn't say that publicly: "Everybody knew it was airborne. This is no big thing...

"If Bob Woodward thought what I said was bad, he should have gone out [right away] to the authorities."
Third question, predictably, goes to the Newsmax reporter (formerly of OAN) who asks, predictably, about the Durham investigation.
And that's it. Three questions and he's gone.

"That was a peaceful protest," Trump said. "Paint is not bullets."

Trump opts not to condemn his own supporters in Portland, where they were seen shooting paintballs at protesters.
Wow. Now he makes excuses for Kyle Rittenhouse, charged with murdering two protesters, says he looked like he was under attack.

Trump, in blocking emergency USPS funding, is brazenly trying to undermine mail-in voting in a pandemic — to turn his warnings of election chaos into a self-fulfilling prophesy.

He’s now admitted it. Twice. And nary a word yet from Republicans. latimes.com/politics/story…
Also worth noting @USPS is the most popular brand in the country — 91% view it favorably (see below).

If Trump is seen to be delaying everyone’s mail for his own benefit, there’s a real chance this does affect the election, just not the way he thinks.

Lo and behold, we have one (very vulnerable) Senate Republican expressing concerns:

ROMNEY: "The president is guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust."
Romney says corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is "perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine."
ROMNEY: "My verdict will not remove this president from office...voters will make the final decision.

"Irrespective of these things, with my vote, I will tell my children...I did my duty to the best of my ability."

Wow. Parnas says Giuliani told him to deliver a tough message to Zelensky aide that “it wasn’t just military aid, it was all aid” from US that depended on Ukraine announcing the Biden investigation Trump wanted.
Parnas goes on to say that Trump made Pence cancel his trip to Kyiv for Zelensky’s inauguration to show Ukraine his seriousness about demanding the investigations.
.@maddow asks if Pence was aware of everything...

Parnas points out that Pence went to Poland to talk with Zelensky on Sept. 1:

“He couldn’t have not known.”

HOLMES: “I’ve never seen anything like this, someone calling the President from a mobile phone at a restaurant, and then having a conversation of this level of candor, colorful language. There's just so much about the call that was so remarkable that I remember it vividly.” (p54)
“Now what led you to believe the President didn’t give a shit about Ukraine?” (p.55)
Holmes describes telling his deputy chief of mission about the Sondland lunch — “for months we’d be hearing about things like the Biden investigation... So it had a ring of truth to it.” (p. 57)

Trump, deviates from the prepared remarks to comment on impeachment probe: "It's corruption going on right now, when you see this, it's pure corruption."
Then, after a man in the crowd calls out "Lock her up!" Trump pauses, calls it out. He jokes that the "fake news back there" wants him to "admonish" him, so he asks the man to stand up and jokingly tells him not to say that again.

Reminder: this is an official WH event.
POTUS toggling between Teleprompter Trump and Rally Trump...

"These are maniacs," he says of Democrats. "Elizabeth Pocohontas...I used to hit her...I thought she was gone...now we're going to have to do it again because I don't see sleepy Joe making it."
