Oh man. Trump: "As the British government advised the British people in the face of World War II, keep calm and carry on. That's what I did."

Churchill was famously blunt with the British people about how bad things could get.
Trump: "When Hitler was bombing London, Churchill, great leader, would oftentimes go to a roof in London and speak. And he always spoke with calmness. He said, 'We have to show calmness.'"

I am currently reading the Larson book and I can tell you this is very bad Trump History.
Churchill would sometimes go up on roofs and other high perches to watch the Blitz bombings. He did not broadcast from the roofs, clearly - he'd sneak up there in the dark.
Also: "The ‘Keep Calm’ design was never officially issued and only a very small number of originals have survived to the present day." history.blog.gov.uk/2014/06/27/kee…

Last night in New Hampshire, Trump repeated a bunch of the false claims from his RNC speech. He also added some more. Quick thread, with the help of colleagues @HolmesLybrand and @tarasubramaniam:
Trump said, "By the way, you know, Mexico is paying for the wall, just in case you didn't know that." (Mexico is not paying for the wall. Americans are paying for the wall.)
Trump said that, under Biden's plan, "you're gonna lose your private health care." He added, "We're gonna lose 185 million people who have private health insurance." (Biden is not proposing to scrap private insurance. He defeated candidates running on Medicare-for-All.)

Trump, on Chicago: "No mother should ever have to cradle her dead child in her arms simply because politicians refused to do what is necessary to secure their neighborhood and to secure their city."
Trump announces a "surge" in federal law enforcement to Chicago. He says FDA, ATF, DEA, US Marshals, DHS are sending "hundreds of skilled law enforcement officers."
Trump: Don't forget that the job of policing neighborhoods falls on "local elected leadership." Don't forget that, he says. (He has been denouncing "Democrat-run" cities; very mildly more subtle today.)

Here's a thread on some of the many ways Trump falsely described the proposals from the Biden-Sanders unity task forces.

The task forces proposed ending for-profit immigration detention centers.

Trump claim about what they proposed: "Abolish immigration detention." 1/
The task forces proposed banning federal funding to for-profit charter schools.

Trump claim about what they proposed: "Abolish all charter schools." 2/
The task forces proposed a "goal" of net-zero emissions for all new buildings by 2030.

Trump claim: They want to "mandate" net-zero emissions...and this "basically means no windows." 3/

Pence expresses sorrow about the 126,000 deaths and the 2.5 million infections, but also claims "we have made truly remarkable progress in moving our nation forward."
Pence: All 50 states are "opening up safely and responsibly." (Texas and Florida announced today that they are shutting some things down again because the opening was not safe.)
Pence, who sometimes just repeats Trump's lies even though he is well versed in the facts, applauds Trump for his decision to "suspend all travel from China," even though it was not all travel because there were multiple exemptions.

In his official speech at a swab factory in Maine, Trump touts the jobs numbers, boasts about his crowds and the border wall, muses about the 2016 and 2020 elections, bashes Democrats, and repeats his talk about how we have so many coronavirus cases because we do so many tests.
Trump criticizes Maine's governor for what he says is a too-slow pace of "reopening," emphasizing harm to the tourism sector. He says, "What's she doing? What's she doing? I don't know that much, I just know you're great people."
Trump says that anyone with a 401(k) should vote for Trump because otherwise their 401(k)s will be "worthless."

Asked about whether winding down the task force is a good idea in a pandemic, Trump says, "I think we're looking at phase 2, and we're looking at other phases. The country's starting to open up. The task force has done a phenomenal job."
Trump later: "Mike Pence and the task force have done a great job, but we're now looking at a little bit of a different form. And that form is safety and opening. And we'll have a different group, probably, set up for that."
Asked why now is the time to wind down the task force given that doctors say the virus might come back in the fall, Trump says, "Because we can't keep our country closed for the next five years." While it might come back, "It'll be a flame, and we'll put the flame out." ?
