This morning, on the @pssbcnigeria group chat, it has been about love and experiences with the gospel of Jesus in it's simplicity.

No Airs. No Brags. Just Jesus!

Why?

The one whom Jesus raised as Teacher for us have opened us to the reality of LOVE!
So for the last 3 hours, it has been about love.

I recall some discussion I had with @GbengaWemimo on the communion and how most of the accounts of Acts, written by Luke was from the communion table.

The Apostles had the bread and wine on the table, sharing experiences...
All they spoke was about Jesus and all the successes and learning along the way since they started preaching.

The atmosphere must have been so charged with the presence of Glory that bread became body and blood became wine by just speaking about JESUS!

Oh Jesus!
Today, we are having 6 hours in tongues and finishing with a Holy Communion service.

I want you to join us. Whatever time works for you, please join us. There is something special about today's communion.

The breakthroughs will be definitive and Assertive!
GSWMI is inviting you to Holy communion worship.

There was something about the way Ushe fought. His entire face lacked a fighter’s expression.

There was no tell to his move or punches. He would look so casual and almost weak but for those of us experienced, we knew by his footwork.

It wasn’t the Ali shuffle.
Watching him bounce on his feet was something else. For the inexperienced eyes, it looked like he was showing off but for us, this meant he never skipped leg day.

His Uncle, Mr. Ibezimakor had began to train him since he moved to Lagos 4 months earlier.
The day he came in, he went straight to him and told him - I want to be a boxer like you and I want you to train me.

I’ll give my all and I’ll make you proud.

Whatever you demand, I’ll give until I have nothing else.

His uncle saw his look and said “Yes, I’ll train you.”

Ushe (Not Uche)

Jalisco Field, Oshodi 1996

The atmosphere was tense as both partners paced around with fists guarding.

Both fighters were stripped to their shorts with well rimmed torsos. The scene reminded him of the pugilists of the 1800s.
It was a long awaited match between Semiu better known as “Semié” and Ushe.

This was what we called him even though we knew his name. It was how the southwestern boys would spoil a name yet make it tough.

There was Chukwudi but it became Shukudi but that’s another story. Image
Semié was the favorite to win. He wasn’t that tall CT but he was stocky; more like a Tyson.

At the school, there wasn’t a standard technique taught yet but everyone knew he favoured the Southpaw.

His father was a local boxing champion who couldn’t get his act straight.

The Prophet and A Brother

There was something unique about him right from the day he saw him. He was one of those who had touched greatness but was never far from his roots.

He was accessible and diligent. No one could ever question his wisdom and kindness to all and sundry.
He was one of those who would ask you “How are you?” and would genuinely listen to what was said.

There wasn’t a disconnect with him. He was someone that would naturally carry burdens of many without making a fuss about it.

The Brother was always watching him.
One day, the brother went to his office, hugged him and told him how blessed he was to call him Egbon and Pastor.

The Brother swore to himself that he would always look out for his Egbon in every way that he could.

However, it was actually the Egbon who did.

The Light that Shines

Everyone was silent.

It felt like they all heard that voice that called “Ibukun”.

“When He called my name, all I knew was that everything stopped: the thoughts of suicide, the fear, the anger, the rage, the guilt, the condemnation, everything stopped.”
I was pulled into His Light.

It amazed me how His voice could sound like the rushing of many waters because that was the best way to describe Him calling my name.

His Light wrapped my soul and peeled away the layers of darkness I had brought myself into.
Indeed, Jesus is the Light that shines in darkness and darkness has no comprehension.

How could He see me in the dark I sometimes wondered but like the Psalmist said: darkness is Light to Him.

He began to speak, telling me that His love for me is not what I can earn.

The Light that shines

Laraba was shocked! How did she know??? Not even her husband Gozie knew of this encounter.

Immediately Ibukun said those words, Gozie turned to look at her whilst Ikenna simply smiled.

“It’s happening again.” Ikenna thought to himself.
“What does she mean, Laraba? Which man appeared to you?” Gozie asked.

As this point, Ibukun began to speak.

“He also appeared to me at a pivotal moment of my life. When I met Ikenna and we got married, I thought I’d be able to escape my last sins.”
“Yes, I was in the cult and I had done wicked things and even going to prison didn’t help me fight the demons that tormented me.

Faces upon faces! Cries and shrills. The pleas of men and women! The oath and initiation warnings.

Blood had to be spilled.

The Light that Shines…

“Ikenna! Ah ahn?! The way you mentioned the fact that killers came to your house and you hid behind your wife and no one saw both of you is too flippant.” Gozie interrupted.

“These things don’t just happen” continued Gozie “because this isn’t ordinary.
Whilst Gozie was trying to articulate his thought and do what men know how to do - explaining everything away with logic, Laraba was looking intently at Ibukun.

In that look an unspoken conversation ensued and with each look, Laraba realized…
… what was dwelling inside Ibukun wasn’t old but ancient yet familiar and that was for lack of a better word.

She knew that Ibukun had indeed encountered a superior being which she has heard from certain clerics in her hometown.

This woman called Ibukun was carrying Power.
