Tweeting in full the statement we received from "Da Homeless Hero," staying at the Lucerne.

"Apparently, as time counts down the reality of this experience is beginning to hit me. How could I not be traumatized at being dehumanized? I've done all they've asked me to do. 1/8
I've put trust in these institutions and despite all that has gone wrong in the past, I've kept my eyes on the prize. This system has failed me as a young child in the foster care system. Now as an adult struggling to overcome my substance use disorder and deal with my mental 2/8
health issues, my vulnerability has wreaked havoc on my life. This system is continuing to fail me.

I beg of you to fight and fight hard for us. We are not humans in the eyes of so many. As a Black man, the descendent of slaves, there is the inner connection to the ancestors 3/8
that allows me to understand from my current experience what its like to be looked at as less than human.

The Mayor's response is horrifying, to say the least. I'm appalled that this Mayor would depict us in this manner and then do something that would further perpetuate the 4/
substance use disorder many of us are suffering from and increase our mental health issues in a negative way.

The seriousness of this is truly getting to me as it is so many of my fellow residents. The effects of this will cause trauma in ways that we may not even understand 5/8
right now. Walking these halls are different. We're going to need support. I'm going to need support. I'm losing the will to fight but know that I can't give up. I have children and grandchildren and that just can't be the example. There are residents who look to me for guidance6
and I am compelled to help them through my example as much as anything. Yet, I have to keep in mind that I struggle as they do. Therefore, I ask of you with the deepest humility to please keep fighting for us, keep advocating, and allow us to have our voices heard as well. 7/8
I desire a seat at the table so I can articulate this pain as I am living it. I do thank you all for everything that you are doing and in advance, for all, you will continue to do. My goal is to be proactive and not reactive. We have to change the way things are." 8/8
