1/11 Kayla Bergeron (@nycajun1) was sitting at her desk on the 68th floor in the North Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 when she felt the building lurch forward. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
2/11 Immediately, Bergeron, who was the director of public affairs for Port Authority at the time, knew something was wrong and in fact, she thought a small plane had hit their building. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
3/11 She was busy trying to organize where her teammates would work for the day when a security guard came and told them they had to evacuate using the stairs. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
4/11 On their way down the stairs, a colleague showed her a news article with the reality of what was happening: there had been an attack on the World Trade Center, and it was believed to be a work of terrorism. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
5/11 "I said, ‘Let's get this line moving!’ We didn't want to set off panic among people. Can you imagine somebody saying that? It would be a stampede…” ietv.co/3k8O6RM
6/11 “…Finally, we knew the South Tower was down because the sheer force of the other tower shook our tower. The building twisted, the lights went off and there was a rush of water.” – @nycajun1 ietv.co/3k8O6RM
7/11 By the time they made it to the sixth floor of the dark North Tower, the exit was blocked. It was then that Bergeron thought she “was going to die,” because they didn’t see a way out. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
8/11 Eventually, a Port Authority police officer showed up, however, and ushered them back up the stairs to different exit and they made it outside to the street. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
9/11 “All of a sudden a cop says, ‘Run.' I'm like ‘Run?’ Then I turned around and here comes the building imploding. It was a tremendous plume of black.” – @nycajun1 ietv.co/3k8O6RM
10/11 Bergeron would later find that 74 of her colleagues, including 33 Port Authority police, had been killed in the building. ietv.co/3k8O6RM
11/11 From that moment on, Bergeron lived with the trauma she suffered that day— but it wasn’t until years later did the reality of that trauma catch up to her. ietv.co/3k8O6RM

2/ “I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded every citizen under the constitution,” Trump wrote on social media. “I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer.”

1/ A Mississippi grand jury has declined to indict Emmett TIll’s accuser, according to the Associated Press. Carolyn Bryant Donham, who is white, had been facing possible charges of kidnapping and manslaughter after her accusation led to Till's lynching almost 70 years ago.
2/ The Leflore County grand jury determined there was insufficient evidence to indict Donham, now in her 80s, the AP reported. This comes following a renewed investigation by the Department of Justice closed last December.
Gabby Petito's parents have alleged that Moab officers Eric Pratt and Daniel Robbins failed to properly handle a 911 call made on Aug. 12, 2021, in which a witness said they saw Brian Laundrie hitting Petito. Laundrie killed Petito later that month.
1/ Their attorneys announced Monday they would be filing a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against the Moab City police department, the officers who interacted with her days before her death, and two former leaders in the department.
2/ The family alleges that Moab officers Eric Pratt & Daniel Robbins failed to properly respond to a 911 call made on Aug. 12, 2021, in which a witness said he saw Brian Laundrie hitting Petito and trying to take her phone and drive off without her in the middle of downtown Moab.
It was a crime of passion that had every New Yorker rapt with attention in the summer of 1972. 3 armed men entered a Brooklyn bank, thinking it would be a straightforward heist, but fate had other plans. The event would go on to inspire a classic film. #NewYorkGritty 🎞️🧵:
1/ On Aug. 22, 1972, John Wojtowicz, Salvatore Naturile & Robert Westenberg attempted to rob a bank in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gravesend. Unbeknownst to them, the money in the vault had already been collected earlier that day, leaving the branch with half the funds expected.
2/ Within minutes of the robbers entering the bank, a teller triggered an alarm that alerted police to the crime unfolding. Cops dashed to the scene on Avenue P in and formed a perimeter around the bank. 1 of the 3 would-be robbers fled once police showed up.
A new study shows that cats may be just as affectionate as dogs. The study, which was published in Current Biology, found that pet cats also have distinct attachment styles toward their owners in the same way dogs and babies do. 🧵 ietv.co/3iWev78
1/5 The research, which was done by a team at Oregon State University, also found that 64 percent of cats showed what is known as a "secure" attachment style.
2/5 What does that mean? These cats showed no signs of distress when their caregivers left the room and a healthy mix of attachment and exploration when they returned.
