THREAD: This week RedFM (Cork radio) received a deluge of calls over the horrendous abuse of older people in hospital care.
Story after story of cruel treatment and brutal neglect while nurses "having a chat" & staff "browsing Facebook."
Please read this thread and share. 1/9
HSE CONTRACTOR: "I've seen the elderly screaming for attention and receiving none...but meanwhile upstairs in the offices I see the admin sitting around enjoying the craic, laughing and joking...people on computers reading up on MunsterFans, Facebook, and playing Solitaire"

An elderly lady left "hanging on a hoist", unattended, with her lower body exposed to all. Her face was bruised from rubbing against the strap of the hoist.
Another lady was force-fed by a nurse - the patient couldn't swallow. "The way he spoke to her was dreadful."

Patient told by nurse he was "disgusting" after soiling himself, despite having called repeatedly for help. The nurse "dragged him down the corridor and hosed him down like a dog."
"Covid must be an answer to [nurses'] prayers because there's nobody checking up on them now." 4/9
"They put bedpans up on the table that's used for coffee and tea."
"If [the nurses] were under so much pressure they'd be running around the place. All of these nurses aren't running around the place."

"I sat with my uncle one night and could hear a nurse verbally abusing an elderly patient, while the patient sobbed and repeated over and over "I'm sorry nurse, I'm sorry nurse."
Elderly patients told "If nobody comes when you need to go to the toilet, just go in the bed."

Toilets had no doors. "There was excrement all over the cubicles, on the seats, in the toilets, on the walls and on the floor."
Nurse asked if she was proud of this filthy ward; she said "she was very proud of it."
"This is the Magdalene Laundries of the present day."
7/9
These shocking stories confirm all we have been saying for the past five months. The elderly have been abandoned by the State, and hundreds have died from abuse & criminal neglect.
"People didn't believe what went on in the Magdalene Laundries; but it did go on."
8/9
We reiterate that An Garda Síochána @GardaTraffic, not the @HSELive, must investigate criminal abuse and neglect in hospitals and nursing homes.
