the irony is the film is a critique of hyper-sexualizing young girls, and also the strict, conservative atmosphere of some religious households. given my background it hit close to home. it's a very real tension, and the film argues for a healthy resolution of it

btw this movie has less explicit sexualizing of young girls than leon the professional (a film I like, though those parts were needless and gross), yet the venn diagram of those calling this film child porn while having leon on their favorite movies list is a circle
incidentally luc besson, who is a sexual predator, wanted to add more explicitly sexualizing scenes, but portman's family and jean reno put a stop to it. it would have ruined the movie, and have made it actual child porn
