Hey y’all! As many of you know, because of the smoke in OR, the protests have been put on hold in order to switch the focus to mutual aid. As this pause is happening, we’ve observed that for many folks this is the first real “break” they’ve had, even though it’s not really 1/?

a break, simply a switch in focus. With that, many people are feeling a lot of Big Feelings! So as we get inquiries about helping and needing support, as wanted to clarify a few things.
1. PDX Care Collective is working to radicalize mental health. You do not need a degree 2/?

to support other people’s mental wellness! Many of our community confidants are listeners and supporters based on lived experience. (we’ll give you basic trainings and resources, should you volunteer to help!!)
2. We are looking for people from ALL walks of life. Yes, all. 3/?

Westernized mental health treatment has major economic barriers and can be traumatic, especially for BIPOC, houseless, and other marginalized/systemically mistreated folks. Having a variety of peer confidants means when you need support, you don’t also have to do the 4/?

labor of explaining racism or transphobia (etc) to the person that’s supporting you; this often can defeat the purpose because then it’s more draining than helpful!
