FINANCIAL PLAN ON A COMMERCIAL SNAIL FARM ON A FREE RANGE SYSTEM OF 1000 SNAIL BREEDERS
1) Cost of structure on 2plots.......#1,600,000
2) Cost of breeders......#400,000
3) Cost of feeding 30,000 baby snails from 2 months to 8 months using the snail feed as supplement. On free range cost of feeding is zero,
due to abundant fruits and vegetables that will be heavily planted inside the pen. Waste fruits and vegetables can be served once a while.
Cost of snail feed..........#200,000
The breeders are expected to lay 30 eggs each in a breeding season of 6 months.
Mortality rate of eggs projected @20% will generate 24,000 eggs
which will develop to baby snails and Adult/Matured snails
Sales of 24,000 matured at 10 months @ #500 each will give 24,000 × #500 = #12,000,000.
Estimated profit = Sales - Cost of building + Cost of feeding supplement + Cost of breeders + Cost of labour attendant for 1 year.
#12,000,000 - #1,600,000 + 400,000 + 200,000 +180,000 = #9,620,000.

Why Snail Farming?*

The market opportunity for snail farming in Nigeria and in Africa is huge but grossly underrated. Snails are a huge part of the diet in many parts of Africa, although they are not always affordable and available all year round.
If you rear snail in commercial quantity, hotels, and fast food restaurants will be your regular customers.
In Nigeria, the prices of raw, matured snails go for N250-N600 depending on the size. However, the annual demand for snail in Nigeria is about 7.5million kg annually
international trade in snails is flourishing in Europe and North America. The United State America imports more The than $4million worth of snails annually from all over the world, including Nigeria.
