Today @rajnathsingh made a statement on China on behalf of his govt. I have not seen a statement that is so weak & inadequate

This is a 'ghinona mazaak' in name of national security

I wasn't permitted to speak in the House following this statement. If I had, I would have asked:
Why does this statement not say that China is in control of 1000 sq. km of territory that previously we used to patrol? Who's held responsible for this illegal occupation?

Was @PMOIndia right in saying that no Indian territory is occupied & there have been no intrusions?
Remember @AmitShah's "will give life for Aksai Chin" statement in December last year? Have you backtracked from this position & decided to cede territory to China in Ladakh?

How did we lose 20 brave personnel in Galwan? What happened on that night?
Why is the govt not telling the truth about our captive soldiers?

Why didn't you tell Parliament that you demanded China for a status quo to the situation as it was before April 2020? Have you since demanded that the current situation be treated as status quo?
You are talking about talks led by militaries of both sides. Will these talks succeed when previous rounds have failed?

What political guidance has the govt given to the Armed Forces? Why has the political leadership not taken ownership of the process? Why make army the proxy?
Why is this process being pushed on the armed forces? It's not their job to engage in diplomacy - this is your job

Why did India accept Russian mediation on this bilateral issue? Since you've done it, will you do accept mediation for disputes with other neighbors also?
Why does Indian media have to depend only on leaks to get information regarding the situation with China? Why no daily briefings from any spokepersons?

Parliamentary rules allow for a discussion prohibiting media reportage. Why are you avoiding briefing us properly?
This govt is an expert in emotional blackmail. Minister's statement said that Parliament has always stood by our forces & it must do so now. There's no doubt that Parliament is with the forces

BUT WHERE ARE YOU?

Why're you putting onus of a solution on them? This is your job

Hon'ble @loksabhaspeaker sir separation of powers is part of basic structure of Constitution. Parliament has the power & duty to question the govt. We're elected to ask questions & hold the govt accountable. A session that takes up only govt business prevents us from doing so
There's a requirement for 15 days' notice period for questions & I request that questions from members be accepted starting today so that the House can take up questions well within time. It's also your discretion to reduce the notice period u/r 33 of LS Rules of Procedure
One may also consider a single day's sitting for only Questions. In any case, nothing prevents the govt from answering unstarred questions

Similarly Hon'ble Speaker enjoys the discretion to issue a revised bulletin that accounts for private members business & questions

THREAD: Supreme Court's Puttaswamy judgement stated very clearly that privacy is a fundamental right. There's a huge risk when our personal info is used without our consent. Most importantly, facial recognition technology is unreliable & biased. This is why I'll be submitting...
a Private Members' Bill banning use of facial recognition & remote biometric surveillance technology. Such technology can record & use your gait to identify to you Face recognition technology is inaccurate in identifying dark people women, persons with disabilities & young people
The accuracy of these technologies depends on the database. These databases are themselves riddled with bias. For example, a database of arrested people will obviously have an over-representation of SCs, STs & Muslims.

THREAD: CM of Uttar Pradesh has replaced rule of law & due process with encounters. This isn't just a formality. It's the very basis of protecting us from a tyrannical govt. Cops don't have power to punish anyone. Except in UP, where encounters are carried out without any proof Image
Till December 2019, UP police had conducted 5200 encounters. Apart from people who have been killed, many have been subjected to half encounters-shot in the legs. With bullet injuries and imprisonment, they have been denied treatment and dealing with septesimia among others.
Most of the people subjected to half encounters are also Muslim, Dalit & OBC. All of them are from working class background. Most of them between the age of 17-40 ( the prime age for working men). Instead of gathering evidence & going to court - cops have used encounters.

THREAD: NSO under Union Govt released report on "Household Social Consumption on Education in India" In its chapter on status of education among various social groups, the report has highlighted how Muslims lag behind the most & how the system has especially betrayed Muslim women
First, the literacy gap between Muslims & other groups continues to increase. Because successive governments have refused to invest in education for Muslims They haven't made scholarships demand driven & neither have they established schools for Muslim students
On every attendance ratio, Muslims lag behind others. However, what is more worrisome is that the ratio falls substantially as Muslim students move from Primary towards Higher education. In other words, Muslim students are forced to drop out due to lack of financial support

It is high time that we have a competent person Chairing the Waqf Board. We have nothing against the current Chairperson, but the Board must be led by someone who can actually manage the many responsibilities & duties that come with the office of the Chairperson.
As ruling party TRS is free to appoint their own person but due attention should be paid to their ability & skills

Had a competent person been at the helm this issue wouldn't have arisen. I am sure that it'll not be difficult for the govt to find a more capable person to appoint
You can consider appointing AK Khan (Retd. ADGP) or Malik Motasim Khan or anyone else whose experience reflects competence & capability

At the same time, we'll be submitting a draft amendment empowering Waqf Board with summary eviction powers similar to Hindu Endowment Boards
