@dublincycling @DublinCommuters some thoughts for you in relation Monday night's council meeting and the 30km/h proposal.

My political assessment of the situation was that the proposal as formulated would die on the floor of the Chamber (or the Round Room in this instance).
Where was the evidence of support for it? Where was the poll of Councillors indicating majority backing? Where was the co-ordinated push from the "Dublin Agreement" parties to get it across the line.

Nowhere.

Twitter-based support does not automatically translate to support
in the Chamber.

Far from "obstructing" anything the objective of my amendment was to try and bank the good parts of what was being proposed while creating a mechanism for resolving issues around what are mainly arterial/radial routes - text below:
The criticism aimed at me is based IMHO on an incorrect premise that the proposal was going to get through if I hadn't amended it. It wasn't - it was going to die right there. The vote on my amendment alone is evidence of that. Step into the real world.
IMHO the issue at stake now is to get agreement as quickly as possible on a reasonable, enforceable proposal for arterial/radial routes.

A final comment - for those who think that Councillors drove at above 30km/h to the meeting on Monday evening - I cycled in and out. I had to
leave early because power in my back light was low (my bad) & I didn't want to be cycling in the dark.
As I was at lights on 1 of the bridges home a taxi driver pulled up beside me to let me know that the power in the light was weak & that it should be recharged. Motorist and cyclist working together.
2 other comments:

(1) I tried to hold the door as wide open as possible on Monday night for DCC officialdom to step through with a proposal that would engender sufficient support - it didn't happen
(2) My amendment was not exclusively about "my local roads" - they were local
examples of roads that i had trialled myself at 30km/h. The amendment made it the job of the Area Committees with their local knowledge to finalise in each area
