well, i'll play final fantasy xvi
alright so where's final fantasy xvii
i am Very Intrigued by Final Fantasy XVI. it's got the game design director of dragon's dogma! it looks like it might have a Lone Protagonist! its story appears to span many years! it's got some witcher-y medieval stylisms, and baroque-ish FFVI nostalgia-baiting. how neat!
i hope its (action?) combat is as good as that in The FFVII Remake. and seriously it sorta blows my mind that they've gone back to dudes-sayin-milord-style capital-F Fantasy in a mainline singleplayer FF game since, what . . . IX? (XII had too many star wars lasers)
wow . . . either i should stream more, or sony should have more playstation events . . . or both? i'm getting bigger numbers these days than i was getting back on kotaku's channel . . . twitch, you should partner me!!

more on final fantasy xvi: it looks, as @wesleyfenlon said, like a Matsuno Game. obviously not an Actual Matsuno Game, though somehow More Matsuno Than Matsuno. some Serious Dark Hard Old Stuff bubbling up out of like, Ogre Battle / Vagrant Story Times
i love that they just flopped this trailer at the very beginning of the playstation 5 stream and walked away. that's fun. also, wow: is being excited because a game looks Bland Enough a sign that i have Refined Taste, or that i'm Getting Old lmao

big news: i have decided that the second i click "public" on this video sunday morning, i am taking two full weeks off. i will do absolutely nothing. i ain't even gonna play any video games. don't even email me. well, back to work
btw i make this distinction right now, twelve hours into the friday of a 100-hour work week, because You All Out There can't stop calling me "lazy" in your emails, so i might as well Go For It lmao
really: a guy flat out told me "Just upload the video. You have literally the easiest job in the world." i realize that anyone who actually watches my videos would not even say something like that as a "joke", so i realize that guy was perfectly serious. lord

i made a massive patreon post about this, so here's the tiny twitter version: the cyberpunk video is REAL GOOD (and huge). it's gonna take another month. it's the best thing i've ever made, so please wait a little longer so i can finesse it! expect it week one of august.
additional contributions to the delay: the cyberpunk video too interconnectedly references the next six videos that i needed to also research and write outlines for the next six scripts while making this one. i played 110 video games total for this review.
Season Two of action button features Big Changes: finalized branding, a fancy website, new hires, and an extreme re-focusing of tone, mission statement, and style. i dare not spoil what i mean; for now let's leave it at: i'm gonna cut down on bad jokes (and cut UP on good ones).

the above tweet is a joke. this one is not: my Inside Source at nintendo tells me that the nintendo switch OLED model does in fact run super mario odyssey at 60fps. very intriguing

BIG NEWS: after a year and a half of being My Beast Friend, as of this week "Little" Bibbithy "Bibby" D'Babbis Babbis has started approaching my desk and explicitly asking to be lifted into my lap, where he stands on all fours staring at the front door (his favorite stare-target) sweet little permababy pome...
i always wanted a dog that would sit in my lap by choice, though not a big one--not the kind of dog who feels more like a bad roommate when they in your lap. i mean like a small one who just kind of chills there. if only there was a word for that. oh well! back to work
getting bibby to do this has been a YEAR-long process of picking him up and putting him in my lap (aka "lap jail") when he barks too many times, because he can't get down from the chair by himself and it genuinely calms him down. well, now he stands up and asks! NOW back to work
