We have just been informed that this #purpletrain will be held here at Emu Plains due to a person “injured by a train” at Kingwood. I know this code. This may take some time.
I see that an outbound #purpletrain has already been held at Kingswood (correct spelling this time) for half an hour, and an inbound #blueandyellowtrain for 15 minutes.
Yep, the guard just said we could easily be waiting an hour or more.
There is a pub just over there but I want to stay with the train for now.
As I had expected, unfortunately “injured by a train” has now been revised to “fatality” so the cops have to do the full procedure. They guard says it will definitely be at least an hour before trains start moving, make other travel plans, etc.
The #purpletrain is being cleared into Penrith to terminate there. Buses are being organised from Penrith to St Marys, the next station where trains can turn around, but no ETA on those yet. There are also local bus routes I might explore.
Many thanks to the guard on run W570 for keeping us informed, @TrainLinkWest.
Bussin’ my 775 moves to St Marys.
I’ve made it to St Marys just in time for an actual train. For some reason the algorithm reckons I should change at Lidcombe for Ashfield, rather than Strathfield, so I am going to ignore that bit.
Mind you it’s been five minutes away for more than five minutes now. I am OK with this. It’ll be the next train to Sydney no matter when it starts.
We have a #blueandyellowtrain but we’re are not being allowed to board yet for some reason.
We have been put on another #blueandyellowtrain on platform 4 and we’re mobile!
Ah, they’re clearing all the trains out of St Marys in quick succession.
THIS IS THE START OF MY THREAD ON THE FEDERAL BUDGET. #Budget2023
I’ll be looking specifically for things related to the cybers or digital life or adjacent issues.
The documents will be at budget.gov.au from 1930 AEST. To begin, some hints for understanding them...
The one I always hit first is Budget Paper No. 2. This lists and explains all the individual “budget measures”, which are the changes to every line item since the previous Budget or now-usual Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO). #Budget2023
Programmers, think of Budget Paper No. 2 as a set of diffs, with copious comments. #Budget2023
One continuing problem with “creating opportunities” framing is that it perpetuates the idea of “success”, whatever that is, as a moral virtue and not being able to take advantage of the “opportunity”, whatever that is, as a moral failing. So it’s YOUR fault not the government’s.
Mon plan: 0924 AEDT train to Sydney; various planning and administrivia en route; 1145 GP, Hyde Park; 1300 lunch and drinks with a birthday co-conspirator*; errands and shopping; return train.
* Theirs, not mine. I don’t have birthdays any more.
As usual, further alleged plans and other Interesting Things may be found in the Weekly Wrap.
So, I was just at the bottle shop and a young couple and their toddler were behind me. Greys given the cash to the toddler so she could enjoy paying the cashier. I leaned down, smiled. "Hi, can I have you money?" And she gave it to me.
I handed the cash back to the mother. She explains that the money should go to THAT man not THIS man. I asked again. This time the kid paused, confused, but still gave me the money.
"Yeah," I said, handing back the cash, you need to fix that." All laugh.
