Today is the 90th birthday of Carnatic violinist Lalgudi G Jayaraman! One of the greatest maestros of music in this century! His musical lineage is the most vibrant amongst the Tyagaraja Sishya Paramparas. ☺️🙏
I can't express how fortunate I feel to have known him in close proximity. I was never his student. But, as a budding writer on music, he took extra effort in extending his hospitality over the decades. I learnt so much from him! ☺️🙏
Always soft-spoken and full of warmth!☺️
Behind every successful man is a strong woman! I think greater than Lalgudi Jayaraman mama was the wonderful Maami! Here he acknowledges her everlasting support and encouragement for everything he did!
☺️🙏
Some good music for this evening! Dedicated to Lalgudi Sishya Parampara!

If you think Lalgudi compositions are limited to his disciples, you are mistaken! They've become everyone's favourite!
Check out a child prodigy genius Mandolin Shrinivas rendering another Thillana! ☺️🙏
And last, but not the least, one of the super famous disciples of Lalgudi Sishya Parampara is the Sangeeta Upanyasam exponent Vidushi Vishaka Hari.
Listen to her this coming Sunday, narrating the story of her Guru, in her own inimitable style!
Will end this thread here! ☺️🙏
The #Lalgudi90 celebrations continue with some brilliant artistes paying their musical tributes to the maestro!
A lot of people are wondering what is that tree on the Dharma Dhwaja that was hoisted on the @RamJanmbumi Mandir today by our PM Shri @narendramodi ji. @PMOIndia
A short thread on that ☺️🙏🏼
That is the Kovidara tree. With bright purple flowers!
☺️🙏🏼☺️🙏🏼☺️
We find enough references of this in the Ramayana. For example Lakshman identifies Ayodhya’s army in Chitrakoota by looking at the Kovidara Dhwaja on the chariots
Bangalore was a planned city keeping a thousand lakes in and around. By the 1960s, only 280 of those remained. Today we don't have even 80 of them. What happened to the rest? Land sharks with their illegal encroachments, backed by corrupt builders and governments!
Now rain waters are reclaiming what is their original land!
Those who are living on such land must drown and die! Nature is merciless!
Did you know Majestic bus stand was once a lake? Dharmambudi Kere!
In rural Bangalore they prayed to 'Kere Devaru', or god of lakes!
Birth centenary of my beloved Guru Garu, Pouranika Sarvabhouma, Pravachana Chakravarthy, Veda Brahmasri Malladi Chandrashekhara Sastry Garu!
Truly, once in a century does someone of his eminence walk this earth!
Chirasmaraneeya!
न भूतो न भविष्यति!
🙏🏼☺️🙏🏼☺️🙏🏼
One of the greatest achievements in my life was to get his appreciation. Something impossible to get! He was not an easy person to please! Brutal in his opinion and candid in his words, he called a spade a spade!
His and Amma Garu’s warmth and love is a lifetime blessing!
🙏🏼☺️
An old thread when he passed away , three years ago.

It is said that Tyagaraja Swamy was inspired by the procession of Vaduvoor Ramar and composed this!
