🧵 Saw a Black man on the bus ranting on Latin migrants and immigrants talking about “Trump bout to win & deport them all!” giving fist bumps to 2 other Black men who cheered his racist rant. Meanwhile, the rest of the very diverse bus in downtown Chicago was silent. I spoke up.
“Nobody wants to hear that. Take that ignorance off this bus, these people are not your enemy,” seeing him swig a small container of clear booze.

“That bottle is your problem. Not them.”

“FUCK YOU!” he yelled stepping off the bus and looking back in at me.

I was unmoved.
“You are YOUR problem, not them.”

“House n-igga!” He exclaimed.

“Okay bruh,” I sarcastically uttered.

A woman went to leave the bus and said “thank you.”

The damage the Donald Trump presidency did to the country is incalculable. Set back progress of the country 70 years through the courts and springing forth a white supremacist movement that is not on the fringe but in the very day lives of many Americans

It still haunts me society went into isolation, a million died and people became worse humans, angrier, actively more hateful, and more violent instead of reflection and becoming more empathetic and loving
It’s getting WORSE. I’m an optimist by nature, but it is unrealistic not to examine society and not assess its pressure points

Few places I’ve ever been I FELT the racism than when I drove through the state of Wyoming on a cross country trip west during law school and stopped for gas. The place looked and felt like I stepped through a time portal with a diner attached to a station with an old school pump
I was so glad it was daylight when I stopped. Those diners’ eyes trained on us in a way that pierced me. Yeah, decided not to eat a damn thing. Zoomed TF out of there. Anyway, I think of Liz Cheney representing those people. It’s many parts of the country like this
It’s not just states with a bunch of land and backwards people. It’s suburbs, pockets of areas in cities just like Wyoming where white homogeneity is expected, desired, fostered as a shield to protect a certain type of “culture”
