UN report "considers that [Leopoldo] López was a victim of 'torture and cruel treatment or punishment,' even though there are no examples or records that confirm this"
The UN report is badly discredited for this claim alone.
If you claim this about Lopez then you should claim it about anyone in prison for a serious crime anywhere in the world.
If the UN report suspends judgement or otherwise fails to concede that an assassination attempt against Maduro took place in August of 2018, then that also badly damages the reports credibility
Will also be interesting to see if the UN report (when I am able to read it for myself) "recommends" to the "international community" (US & its top accomplices) that it quit killing tens of thousands of Venezuelans through econ sanctions.

This guy cites Nazi propaganda from 1944 to deny how deeply enamoured the U.S. establishment was with Hitler before the war and even during the early years of WWI.
Let’s review some facts.
This flattering account of what Hitler was doing in Germany was published in the @nytimes . It was a review of Mein Kampf that was dismayed by Hitler’s Jew hatred but clearly would otherwise have loved the guy.
Please don’t take false comfort from polls showing that potential US military strikes on Venezuela are unpopular. Why do I say that? Is US public opinion irrelevant because the USA is a dictatorship?
Thread
Yes the U.S.A is a dictatorship but that doesn’t mean public opinion is completely irrelevant. However the U.S. has shifted to being less interested in “manufacturing consent” for its crimes (agreement with them) and much more about manufacturing fear of opposing them.
But the other thing is that the U.S. wall to wall acceptance - probably even in the public- for the lie that Maduro is a dictator who we should be happy to see Venezuelans overthrow. That dramatically reduces the political costs of military strikes even if they aren’t popular.
President Maduro Press conference happening right now in Caracas #Venezuela. I will comment on it on this thread
Going over history of Venezuela and noting that there is debate about whether Venezuela’s name has European on indigenous roots
Says there are still those with a Hitlerite supremacist agenda on Venezuela like in previous centuries and reminds people that the Catholic Church centuries ago contributed to genocidal supremacy
“Leftists are too academic and can’t talk to working people” is a sentiment I have zero patience for, and often a sign somebody wants to rationalize pandering to racists.

It is not just that I’ve never had any problem myself talking to or having personal friendships with people who have little formal education. I’ve never even known anybody whose education was a barrier to them having relationships with people who have little formal education.
The people I’ve known who have a hard time making friends or sustaining relationships generally can’t get along with people regardless of their educational background.
It’s happening again. #Ecuador is having a presidential election soon so the Naomi Klein style “antiextractivist” left is producing articles uncritically quoting the “environmentalist” economist Alberto Acosta
In addition to attacking Evo Morales the day after he was overthrown in 2019, Acosta was also openly delighted with Moreno's illegal 2018 referendum that destroyed #Ecuador’s legal system. Acosta celebrated it as return to the principles of the 2008 consitution.
The referendum that Acosta applauded was ilegal because it did not have the Constitucional Court’s approval. The referéndum asked voters seven unrelated questions, one of which allowed Lenin Moreno to handpick a body that had the sweeping powers of a constituent assembly
It’s 2024, a century after Bertrand Russell met Lenin. and the UK continues to terrorize the world, albeit now as a subordinate to the US. What Russell said Lenin told him has proven correct
Russell resorted to hypocritcal imperial pacifism to denouce Bolshevism - similar to the outlook that finds every excuse under the sun to denounce Palestinain armed resistance today (& then usually expands to denouncing EVERY form of Palestinian resistance, even slogans!)
