First #BlackSelfCareShare tip of the week - one way to improve your mental health is by improving your sleep hygiene!
Getting good sleep is important for both physical and mental health! Everyone can benefit from better sleep. Here are some tips to get better rest! #sleepisimportant!
Tip #1 - Develop a consistent 30 minutes MAX “bedtime”routine - this can look like reading a good book, taking a bath, brushing teeth or even mediating right before bed.
2. Unplug from electronics - we know #BlackInMH is sooo much fun, put your phone down about an hour before your bedtime routine! Phones, laptops, and TVs provide a lot of mental stimulation that make it harder to go to bed!
3. Try to go to bed around the same time every night (and try to wake up at the same time too - even on weekends)!
4. It helps to have a healthy mental connection between being in bed and actually being asleep. For that reason, if after 20 minutes you haven’t gotten to sleep, get up and stretch, read, or do something else calming in low light before trying to fall asleep again.
Lastly 5 - make sure your room/sleeping place is comfortable to you. Be sure to dim the lights and keep it somewhat cool for the best sleep !
