✒️Please join Klondike while I tell you all a story about the appalling notion that Trump, not Joe Biden, is a better steward of America’s economy:

✒️Once upon a time, there was a spoiled baby-man who inherited hundreds of millions of dollars from his rich, racist daddy.

1/20 Image
✒️Over the next 30 years, the baby-man steadily lost hundreds of millions of dollars in laughably bad investments.

✒️He was rotten at business but spent his days rearranging his hair and using another guy’s name, John Miller, to call newspapers to heap praise upon himself.

2/20 Image
✒️Nobody could lie like he could. But if dishonesty defined wealth, well, he was a very, very rich baby-man indeed.

✒️Anyway, one day, the baby-man decided to buy a casino, because even HE couldn’t fuck up that kind of easy return on investment.

3/20
✒️The baby-man shopped around and picked out a casino that had been doing good business for the past eight years and provided a steady annual profit of about 7%.

✒️He hung his name on the place and proceeded to see about upping the profit margins by another 5% or so ...

4/20 Image
✒️... because enough was never enough for the insecure baby man. Besides, he had a helluva financial hole to dig out of after years of rotten investments.

✒️Mostly, though … he absolutely hated the previous owner of the casino, and wanted to show him up.

5/20 Image
✒️The previous owner was a smart, steady, decent family man, who had taken over the place only eight years earlier and rescued it from the financial collapse. Along with his sidekick, Joe, they had returned the place to respectability.

6/20 Image
✒️By the time they were done, all of the casino’s employees we are able to keep their jobs, AND they were able to add an additional 10% more!

✒️It was an incredible story of perseverance and leadership.

7/20 Image
✒️All was well, until they were unexpectedly forced to sell to the dishonest baby-man.

✒️For a couple of years, the baby-man was able to continue to return a profit on the place, but it was less than the profit the decent man and his sidekick Joe had returned before him.

8/20 Image
✒️This, of course, made the baby-man furious, but still he bragged to whoever would listen (Twitter), that the casino had never done better.

✒️One day, the manager of the casino walked into the baby-man’s opulent, garish golden office ...

9/20
✒️He told the baby-man boss that one of the employees had gotten very sick and was dying.

✒️The baby-man asked what it had to with him, and the manager said, “Nothing, sir, I just thought you should know as the owner of the casino.”

10/20 Image
✒️A week later, the manager came back and told the baby-man that several employees had gotten very sick and that he was now worried a killer virus was infecting the casino. He said other casinos were having the same issue and they had exercised caution and shut down.

11/20
✒️He suggested to the baby-man they shut the place down, too, until they could ascertain just what in the hell was going on.

✒️The baby-man screamed at him, “If you suggest that to me again, I will fire you and wreck your entire life, got it?!?!?!

12/20 Image
✒️He went on: "I intend to make millions, no matter how many rotten people die, you stupid SOB!!!”

✒️The manager put his head down and slumped away.

13/20
✒️By now, word had gotten out that people were dying in the casino and something was very, very wrong. People stopped showing up at the casino.

14/20 Image
✒️Profits were dropping like a rock and the baby-man was furious. So he called everybody to together on the casino floor one day and told them that everything was actually fine and terrific and that very, very soon like a tremendous miracle the virus would just go away …

15/20 Image
✒️He said that even though people were dying and others were sick and/or unemployed he was actually doing a “great, terrific job” and not to believe what was going on right in front of their eyes.

16/20 Image
✒️By now the other casinos that had shut their doors out of caution had started opening again, because they had taken the killer disease seriously.

✒️Still, the baby-man lied and more people died ...

17/20
✒️The casino was now in financial ruins with no end in sight, like every other thing the baby-man had managed in his life.

18/20 Image
✒️Then one day, @JoeBiden came knocking on the door of the casino he used to help manage. He was with his wife, Jill, and wearing a mask. He promised he could save lives and the casino if they would just let him in. He had done it before, after all …

🇺🇸 Let me tell you something, dammit:

🇺🇸 We are a battle-tested group of badass patriots that has prevailed time and again, and won one key political skirmish after another at an astonishing clip the past seven years.

🧵 Image
🇺🇸 The fact that we have accomplished this in the face of long odds, and unrelenting opposition has been an inspiration, and will fill fat chapters of the history books Republicans would rather people didn't read.
🇺🇸 We have generated breathtaking Blue Waves and drowned Red Ones. We have won the House, and we have won the Senate. We have won the presidency, and an overwhelming majority of the vote. We have won special elections, and not-so-special ones.

📌Spent the afternoon on the road canvassing for @KamalaHarris and @tammybaldwin here in Madison, Wisconsin.

📌So a quickie thread, with a big finish ...

🧵 Image
📌Turns out where I am in West Madison we've hit our canvassing marks so well, they sent me out to SW Dane County in the town of Oregon to help out there.

📌Dane County is the Blue Wall of this Blue Wall state. Joe Biden beat the revolting Trump by 175,000 votes here in 2020.
📌The Oregon area is rural as hell, and might be confused for stereotypically being kind of Trumpee ...

📌Well, there's some of that, but damn if it isn't bluer than blue in most places, so get this ...

📌I have heard more than enough of this grotesque garbage that perhaps we should try to understand what makes the Trump voter tick, and somehow sympathize with their support of an unapologetic loudmouth who sees “good people” on both sides of a violent white supremacist rally.
🧵 Image
📌Have you seen this drivel that Kamala Harris and other Dems have done an inadequate job of connecting with Trump voters who see nothing dangerous about a man who refers to human beings as “vermin,” and has adopted Adolph Hitler’s talking points at his odious campaign rallies?
📌Have you seen this low-grade nonsense that we should work to lower the temperature in this country, and maybe not take it personally when one party has gone completely in the tank for a hideous man who told the losers who attacked America on Jan. 6, 2021 that he “loves them?"

📌Let me tell you why the traitor, Trump, has NO SHOT in Wisconsin this year:

📌Where I live in Madison, we had a 45% turnout yesterday — the highest for a fall partisan election EVER. This is an obscenely high number. The state overall was at 26%, the highest in 60 yrs.

🧵
📌You can expect the turnout numbers to be close to double that in November. So why does that matter?

📌Well, take a look at what we thought of the GOP's disgusting ballot initiatives, which lost statewide by a whopping 15 pts. -- 57%-42%.
📌Here in Dane County, home to Madison? Well, those initiatives were defeated by 66 pts.
Read the again.
83% to 17%. Astonishing. Truly astonishing.

📌Blockbuster story in today's @washingtonpost

"To protect older Americans’ life savings, President Biden pledged in October to crack down on financial advisers who recommend investments just because they pay higher commissions. Then the insurance industry got to work."

THREAD
📌"Lobbying groups representing New York Life, Lincoln Financial Group, Prudential Financial and other companies first pushed back against the newly proposed regulations before suing to topple them entirely."
📌"Now the government’s latest attempt to protect retirees is in political and legal limbo, facing the possibility that it may never take effect."

🗞️Absolutely incredible reporting here by the @AP

Prisoners in the US are part of a hidden workforce linked to hundreds of popular food brands

🗞️The goods these prisoners produce wind up in the supply chains of a dizzying array of products found in most American kitchens, from Frosted Flakes cereal and Ball Park hot dogs to Gold Medal flour, Coca-Cola and Riceland rice. They are on the shelves of virtually every supermarket in the country, including Kroger, Target, Aldi and Whole Foods. And some goods are exported, including to countries that have had products blocked from entering the U.S. for using forced or prison labor.

🗞️Many of the companies buying directly from prisons are violating their own policies against the use of such labor. But it’s completely legal, dating back largely to the need for labor to help rebuild the South’s shattered economy after the Civil War. Enshrined in the Constitution by the 13th Amendment, slavery and involuntary servitude are banned – except as punishment for a crime.

🗞️“I was in a field with a hoe in my hand with maybe like a hundred other women. We were standing in a line very closely together, and we had to raise our hoes up at the exact same time and count ‘One, two, three, chop!’” said Faye Jacobs, who worked on prison farms in Arkansas.

🗞️Jacobs, who was released in 2018 after more than 26 years, said the only pay she received was two rolls of toilet paper a week, toothpaste and a few menstrual pads each month.

🗞️Former Angola prisoner, Curtis Davis, talks about his time at the Louisiana State Penitentiary during a 2021 interview near a former antebellum slave plantation near Angola, La. The Myrtles, as the antebellum home is known, sits just 20 miles away from where men toil in the fields of Angola.

🗞️“Slavery has not been abolished,” said Davis, who spent more than 25 years at the penitentiary and is now fighting to change state laws that allow for forced labor in prisons. “It is still operating in present tense. Nothing has changed.”
