5 mistakes you should avoid making as a young person.
Thread
1. Choosing the wrong group of friends.
"Show me your friends and I will show you your future."
This is a quote that I had often come across during my teenage years.
I used to think of it as a general platitude until I realized the importance and impact my friends can have.
Don't try to become friends with people who don't seem to be serious about their career or life.
Such people are often the ones who party a lot and do things just to 'look cool'.
Trust me, in most cases, these people don't end up becoming successful in life.
Instead, try becoming friends with people who know what they're doing & what they want to be in the future
These kinds of people come across as nerds or boring people at first, but they are the ones who'll really succeed in life compared to those who do things just to look cool
2. Following the wrong people on social media.
The information you consume will dictate the quality of your life in the long term.
Most people just create social media accounts to follow their friends and celebrities.
This ensures that your social media feed is filled with irrelevant jokes and posts from your friends and the sponsored brand posts from celebrities.
Consuming such content is not adding any value in your life.
Instead, it only wastes your time & energy.
You should instead follow accounts that post a lot of valuable content.
Not only will following great accounts improve your feed, but also you'll learn a lot of things by just scrolling through social media which you wouldn't have learned otherwise.
3. Making career decisions based on the herd mentality.
The decisions that you make during these years will most likely determine the course of your life.
So instead of blindly choosing career paths just because your friends have chosen it, explore different fields
Exploring different fields will help you realize your hidden potentials.
You'll also know what you like to do & what you don't like to do
This is the age to explore different fields because you have all the time and energy in the world
Use your resources (time & energy) wisely
4. Consuming Alcohol and Smoking Cigarettes.
It is very easy to get swayed by the opinions of your friends who say that drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes once in a while is okay.
But they never seem to mention that one drink and one puff is all it takes to being the journey of self-destruction.
And by the time you realize that you're addicted, most likely you'd have wasted tons of time, money, energy and have spoiled your relationships.
5. Buying expensive shit with your parents' money just to look cool.
This actually becomes even worse if your parents aren't earning well.
Before you waste money on things just to look cool, remember that your parents are working hard to support the family.
Instead of being a bitch and burdening them with your unnecessary expensive purchases, try helping them by doing well in school/college or becoming a person of value by learning skills that will help you in the future.
