10 Twitter thread ideas that will get you likes
1. Tell a general and surprising story

this idea from @paulg and is the framework of every good thread

in this example

General = the story of a normal guy obsessed with a cookbook

Surprising = the valuable lesson for creators contained within

2. Repurpose posts from Reddit

the majority of threads are simply exercises in curation

this thread blew up with minimal effort

3. Explain a difficult to understand topic

the simple act of converting your knowledge to Twitter will make it more digestible

more digestible = more likes

@SahilBloom does this with financial concepts

4. Give vague advice

difficult to pull off, but still effective

this is arguably the most iconic thread on Twitter...yet there's very little specific advice in it

if you take this approach, you better have some unique insights

5. Give specific advice

using myself as an example here

this resonated because it had actionable advice

I don't have @naval level insights, so I have to provide tangible value

6. Tell a personal story

if something hilarious happened to you, thread it

this was live tweeted which made it feel even more authentic

7. Get insanely niche

this person used their background as a computer programmer to figure out if digital pregnancy tests are more accurate

can't go more niche than that

8. Combine niches

the majority of people know @david_perell as the writing guy

he recently wrote this thread about golf (which he is also obsessed with)

combining those two niches resulted in something both general and surprising

9. Give peeks behind the curtain

there's a reason why NFL Hard Knocks does so well

people crave insider access

10. Do a case study

the first tweet in this thread is an insightful point on its own

but then @DonyeTaylor uses specific brands to back up her claim

resulting in a business school-level case study laid out on twitter

If you are getting into long distance running for the first time in 2024, please read this: Image
1. 80% of your runs should be at an easy conversational pace. 20% should be breathless at the edge of your aerobic threshold.

2. Shoes do matter. Go get fitted and rotate pairs to avoid wear. Recovery runs, speed work, and long runs should be done in different shoes ideally.
3. Get a heart rate monitor. You can't follow the 80/20 rule if you don't know how hard you are pushing yourself.

4. Increase your mileage by no more than 10% per week. Any bigger jumps will lead to injury, almost guaranteed.

Today, I sent the first edition of The Game

At the bottom, I included a game I invented called

The Button

Here’s how it works (and how you can play)
The rules are simple

Readers can click The Button or not

Totally up to them
Then they guess how many clicks The Button will get

I provide them with the email list size

They respond to the email with their guess

Lil Nas X goes viral whenever he wants

And he does it without spending a dime

Here's the story of how he went from penniless to Grammy winner (and what you can learn from it):
Lil Nas X dropped out of college to pursue music at 19

but he didn't actually make much music at first

instead, he was obsessed with Twitter

he ran a Nicki Minaj stan account that he eventually grew to around 30,000 followers
But success on Twitter didn't translate to musical success

"I’d post a funny meme and get 2,000 retweets. Then I’d post a song and get 10," Nas said.

I've talked to nearly 100 startup founders since joining @launchhouse

a lot of them are making the exact same marketing mistakes

here are the 10 most common marketing pitfalls I see (that you can avoid):
1. Assuming people care

until you give them a reason to, no one gives a shit about what you are building

the best way to fix this is to talk to customers individually

it doesn't scale, but it’s a necessity early on (and can help you write website and advertising copy later on)
2. Leading with education

founders think they need to teach their audience first

but an unproven startup is not where people go for educational content

it’s better to sell status first, then educate later

(this issue is especially prevalent in web3 startups)

Memes are the most powerful, most underrated, and most misunderstood item in a startup founders toolkit

a thread on how to use memes to grow your startup
1/ Why memes?

memes are great tools at showcasing four things that startups need

+ positioning
+ progress
+ community
+ credibility
2/ Positioning

a great way to position your startup is through contrast

highlight the status quo then pit yourself against it

"Contrast burns your brand into the customer's mind."

This week, I worked on establishing content pillars at @launchhouse

Here are the four tenets that will define our content
𝐖𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬

We tell their stories, highlight their wins, and amplify their needs to a wider audience. When one of us wins, we all win.
𝐖𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬

We curate and create content that will help builders become more effective and knowledgeable. Smarter builders are better builders.
