TWITTER MASTERCLASS on politcal -ISMS. My own attempts at trying to understand Biden-ism, Trump-ism, Marxism, Capitalism, Socialism, Fascism, and all the differences. One tweet per "-ISM". First, Marxism... (1/x)
Marxism:  Differences between a boss (who accumulates capital generated by the work of others) and a worker (who is paid less than the value he or she creates) will result in class struggle and eventual revolution. Class differences can't survive in Marxism. Next..Socialism (2/x)
Socialism:    A capitalist society (where a worker gets paid less than value created and a boss gets the remainder) but where capital is later partly redistributed to "even things up". (3/x)
Capitalism: Karl Marx's description of a system where some people do not create value but accumulate capital. This does not exist in real life. "Capitalism" is a Marx-defined word and not a real system that exists. Next...Innovation-ism (4/x).
Innovation-ism: The real source of prosperity and society improvements comes from innovation. Innovation is a response to all prior problem-solving technologies. Each new solution creates new problems. An economy improves as it supports solutions to new sets of problems. (5/x)
Liberalism: A belief that all should have equal access to opportunity and that all deserve human rights. A belief that multiple ideas that don't agree can be resolved fairly by a consensus and all sides will abide by that consensus.
Wokeism: A belief that some should have more access to opportunity than others in order to equal things out. At any given point the weakest voices (segregated by race or sex or preference) should have the most access to opportunity. (7/x)
Libertarianism - Decision making needs to be decentralized (individualism) versus centralized (government decisions) since a central body cannot make better decisions for the individual than the individual. (8/x)
Obama-ism - "Consensus" leads to prosperity. Even if a decision or policy is bad, if it is made with a group of decision makers it is still more likely to result in prosperity than a decision made that generates hostility. Consensus among nations creates globalism. (9/x)
Trump-ism - A leader makes a limited amount of decisions but is most effective making decisions unilaterally. Isolationist - prosperity comes from always making the best decisions for your country and ignoring the needs of others unless it benefits your group. (10/x)
Yang-ism - Innovation leads to a welcome prosperity but often creates new problems. Part of the increase in prosperity created by innovation-ism needs to be redistributed to ensure smooth transitions as innovations move faster than new opportunities are created. (11/x)
Fascism - extreme state controlled capitalism mixed with nationalism and identity politics. Hence "National Socialists" became Nazis. Italian socialists followed Mussolini, etc. (12/x)
Removing the people from the -ISM, allows one to separate the game of politics (the ads, the debates, the personal attacks) with the philosophy of governing. Understanding these systems simply, I think, is a better way to understand what is happening politically (13/END).

WHAT IS THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THESE NEW TARIFFS?

And effect on economy + stock mkt.
The facts:

Trump put on:

RECIPROCAL TARIFFS: tariffs on countries with high tariffs against us.

BLANKET TARIFFS: a 10% tariff against almost all imports.

WHAT WILL BE THE RESULT? ...
First, its important to know

THE SIMPLE RULE TO GOVERN A COUNTRY

INCENTIVIZE behavior you want.
DISINCENTIVIZE behavior you don't want.

e.g example: cigarettes..
Put a vice tax on cigarettes. Result: fewer people smoke.

Nobody listens to health warnings. They only listen to prices.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH TARIFFS? (I'll start with reciprocal then go to blanket. )... Image

THE TRUTH ABOUT TARIFFS:

Many people think tariffs will cause inflation.

This is NOT TRUE.

This is not a political post at all. But I'm going to explain how tariffs work and what causes inflation (a thread):
In the 1800s, 97.5% (!!) of all US revenue came from tariffs.

Here is a chart of inflation from 1800 until now.

Note in the chart that inflation was about ZERO for almost the entire 1800s: Image
DEFINITION OF "INFLATION":

It is an increase in the AVERAGE price of a basket of goods. Like if the average price of oil, hamburgers, eggs, clothes, books, furniture, goes up then there is inflation across those products.

But what determines price? ...

HOW THE US CAN IMMEDIATELY ELIMINATE THE IRS (and get rid of 100% of personal income taxes) : (a thread): (1/17) Image
Personal income taxes adds up to $2.5 trillion in a year.

So to get rid of IRS, the government needs to generate $2.5 trillion in income.

Note: I'm NOT going to recommend a flat income tax or a flat sales tax. Much better... (2/17) Image
First, you have to understand the concept of "Money velocity"

Money velocity is how much a single dollar bill gets used per year.

Example:

if I get $1 in income and buy a newspaper and then the newspaper guy buys a coffee my $1 has now added $2 to economy.... (3/17)Image

It's important to take the politics out of this Immigration / H-1B Visa issue. This is an extremely important issue that has ZERO to do with politics or Trump's stance on immigation. It's worth understanding it before you judge it. Let me explain:
1) The "replacement rate" in the US is 2.1 children per woman. This is the amount of children that, on average, needs to be born so that the US will grow. Any less than this and the US population will SHRINK if there is no (legal) immigration. But there is a solution:
2) The replacement rate in the United States in 2023 was ONLY 1.65 children per woman. THIS IS THE LOWEST VALUE IN RECORDED HISTORY. And it's been lower than the replacement rate since the early 2000s. Because...

I'm hesitant to post this because I don't really like any aspect of the political system. But here is what I heard last night at the Must/Trump conversation and I'm curious what part of this people disagree with:
A) do more vetting at the border (as in legal immigration) to prevent criminals coming in.
B) Have an energy policy that doesn't depend on our enemies for fossil fuels while we continue to explore and innovate on solar/nuclear

How to start a Podcast

A Thread 🧵

Someone asked me how to start a podcast:

what high-end equipment they need, how to get ads, great guests, etc. These are the wrong questions. Here's what you should do. (1/x)
1) START NOW!

Take out the recorder on your iphone. Interview someone.

Interview your spouse about all the things that are wrong with you.

Or interview a homeless guy on the street. You can do 3 interviews in one day.

Or call a wrong # and interview.

Just START! (2/x)
2) DISTRIBUTION: Go to a company that distributes podcasts

Like Libsyn or Omny. They take your podcast and send it to all the places that host podcasts, like Apple Itunes, Stitcher, etc. Upload your episode(s).

NOW YOU HAVE A PODCAST! (3/x)
