The Israeli Knesset (Parliament) rejected a bill to grant “equal and legal protection for all citizens… both Arabs and Jews.” middleeastmonitor.com/20200918-kness…
The bill was introduced on Friday by Yousef Jabareen, on behalf of the Arab Joint List, seeking equality for all citizens. The bill was rejected by a majority of both the ruling party and the opposition parties. middleeastmonitor.com/20200918-kness…
The Knesset’s rejection of equality is the latest act of racism against Palestinians in Israel. This comes just 2 years after Israel entrenched apartheid by passing the Jewish nation-state law, which says the right to self-determination in Israel is “unique to the Jewish people.”
Last year, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that Israel was a nation “not of all its citizens, but only of the Jewish people." npr.org/2019/03/11/702…
The Knesset has shot down several proposals to protect non-Jews from discrimination, showing a determination to maintain a legalized hierarchy wherein Palestinians are treated as second-class citizens, while those under occupation have no rights. commondreams.org/views/2020/09/…

THREAD: For the first time in the US, Oscar-winning film No Other Land is available to stream online. Watch now ⬇️ supportmasaferyatta.com/nootherland
This powerful documentary follows Palestinian journalist and co-director @Basel_Adra and his hometown of Masafer Yatta—a rural community where Israel has been violently forcing Palestinian families out of their homes for decades.
Basel began filming as a teenager—capturing Israel’s violent attacks on his neighbors, his home, and his family.

This isn’t just a story about the past. It documents an ongoing struggle—for dignity, for land, and for survival.

Mahmoud Khalil is a Columbia graduate who ICE agents abducted from his home in March because of his vocal opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Mahmoud was the first of many students abducted by ICE over their speech in support of Palestinian freedom.
The US government is keeping Mahmoud in an ICE detention center in Louisiana, over 1,000 miles away from his wife Dr. Noor Abdulla, who is 9 months pregnant with their first child.

THREAD: Today is tax day. Do you know how much federal tax dollars your city sends Israel to harm Palestinians?
In 2024, New York City gave Israel $560,221,619 in weapons for its genocide. That could have funded groceries for 1,178,793 New York families for a month.

Israel used that money to bomb Gaza's aid distribution centers and starve Palestinian families.
In 2024, Los Angeles gave Israel $238,666,273 in weapons for its genocide. That could have covered rent for 149,634 low-income households for a month.

Israel used that money to bomb and destroy thousands of Palestinian homes, burying entire families under rubble.

THREAD: Today a judge ruled the US can deport Mahmoud Khalil because of his speech.
The Louisiana judge ruled against Mahmoud even after a letter from the Trump administration admitted Mahmoud did not commit a crime and is being targeted solely based on his speech.
Mahmoud should have been released from detention today and allowed to return home to his wife, Dr. Noor Abdalla, who is 9 months pregnant.

Instead, he will remain detained without charge because he spoke up for Palestinian rights.

THREAD: Israel killed 15 paramedics in Gaza—then lied about it. After footage surfaced of Israel’s deadly attack on the first responders, Israel has walked back its statements.

Learn the facts ⬇️
On March 23, a group of first responders, including Palestinian Red Crescent Society paramedics, Civil Defense workers, and a UN staffer, were dispatched to help wounded Palestinians after an Israeli attack in Rafah, Gaza.
Upon their arrival, the Israeli military shot and killed at least 15 of the first responders. One remains missing. A week later their bodies and vehicles were discovered, crushed and buried in a mass grave.
