@KatyTurNBC @JoeNBC Listening to the discussion about the Apocalypse Scenario I had one of those AHA moments. I am perplexed by the sudden media focus on a statement Trump had made in the past. The media response reminds me of 2016. Trump does this to provoke shift. The story.
It is also being turned into a win for Donald Trump on the airwaves. I don't have the answer but I do have questions that we should all think about as we head into a period where the media will be more influential in the outcome than any past election. Briefly my ques
1. Choice of topics and the rigor of the approach is critical. If all we hear about are polls and dissect and panic over Trump's latest provocation we are in trouble. If Trump's lies are replayed over and over again for discussion, to enrage people he runs the daily msg.
2..What are the criteria for what issues will dominate the day? -Will it be an issue that makes a difference to our lives in the presence, like Covid?
-If it is about a threat, will the discussion begin without knowing the facts or will it be speculation?
3 What is the purpose of the discussion? Informing people , generating an emotion, possible actions? Finding a solution for a specific problem?

4. Who will participate? Will there be experts who can analyze aspects of an issue and discuss possible actions or strategies?
Is there a specific outcome of is if a chance to vent and release anger and frustration?

What issues are being sidelined?
What does Trump or the GOP get from it?

Trump's political cons haven't changed much. The issue of transition is a big one at the moment.
Starting point. The threat to democracy that Trump and the GOP is serious and real. Their actions have shown a corrupt intent. They include: appoint a "loyal" judge to hand him the election if he doesn't have the electoral college voter;
- voter suppression by:
- making it hard to vote
- confusion
- voter registration
-post office interference
-limit the vote count
-lie about fraud
-intimidation at polling places
Etc
The Dems have a huge legal operation to respond to cases, launch cases, planning for Nov 3 They have military leaders with experience in strategic planning
- they are planning for scenarios incl not accepting the outcome.
They will do everything they can, the overall strategy suppression and the count.

Why is Trump's statement that he won't necessarily cede power all we have talked about for 2 days? Why is the focus on planning for Nov 3 instead of the things we know are happening?
Why are people saying we can't stop him because of a repeated threat? Trump says it to provoke. He wants to stand in a really saying they have given up because they can't stop me.
What has Trump done that is new and so powerful that we can't stop him?

The issue won't come up unless we get the vote to win.
There were some discussions about various strategies involving the electoral college

How much time did the media spend talking to an expert on the law? Mostly it was recycled opinions that weren't sourced. People accepted speculation without asking for more info
O
There were 2 strategies discussed. Hitting the streets in millions after Nov 3, impeachment.

Did anyone discuss what could happen if impeachment went forward?
The discussion about hitting the streets was talked about as a sign we were talking this seriously. Silence is often mistaken for planning or action not seen. Talking about hitting the streets is an emotional release.
Did anyone ask what the strategy wanted to achieve. If people hit the streets then ??????
The list of says they can steal the election is long. An effective strategy to prevent one of the actions taking place depends on the target activity.
The response may include a continuation of the current lawsuits, media investigation and focus on specific actions
It might also include hitting the streets.

The media has a difficult task. They will report facts as they are available. The temptation will be to speculate using polls, interviews.
They have to decide whether to play in the tensions and provoke violence out of a sense of frustration. Even the smallest lie can be misleading. Trump will is his office or try and monopolize the agenda, do things to provoke outrage.
Will the media cover everything Trump says? Will they do their own investigations, fact collection.

Will the media educate. Always have a experts set the stage, dispute lies and propaganda?
If we want to win we have to be disciplined, use targetted strategies. Graham reacted to money. Trump will react to anything looking behind his business. The Senate GoP want to hide their collusion.

It is a dark and scary time - let's make sure our response is to actions

@VABVOX A lot more. Apart from the evidence, there are huge risks in arresting him too soon including an end to the Jan 6 Committee. The Proud Boys lawyers are in court now arguing that they should have access to all the transcripts of the jan 6 committee.
@VABVOX They are entitled to get all evidence the govt has that would help the defendant. PB lawyers are also arguing it is unfair to have the trial in DC while the committee is holding high profile hearings. It makes it hard to find a jury pool.
@VABVOX Trump's lawyers will use every tweet claiming Trump is guilty to show that it is impossible for him to get a trial. The Jan 6 Committee would have a hard time arguing that they can continue once Trump is charged. Trump will definitely force a delay by filing motions in court.

Joy Reid: Republicans are tying themselves in pretzels to point fingers at every thing but the gun msnbc.com/the-reidout/wa… via @msnbc
It's easy to get them to show the country themselves with a few basic questions:
1. Arming teachers: Will they be required to wear body armor all day? If they aren't proteted isn't a shooter going to kill or injure the teacher and take their gun?
If the teachers are engaging the shooter wh0 is going to comfort the children, move them to a safer location, take them to the bathroom, take care of minor injuries?

@erin Thanks for the post. They've gone much farther than most people realize. Ontario Health is a new Crown Corporation that will have total control over the health care budget. We will see more corporations like Telus acting as intermediary. They're already a big player.
@erin The majority of the Board are corporate CEOs, including some who spent time in the US corp. There is a physician on the board who used to work with the Group that provides physician malpractice insurance. They run up bills so patients can't afford to sue.
@erin Read the Ontario Auditor's Report from Dec 2021. She looked at how Ontario Health is m anaging Assistive Living. Her conclusion, they collect no data to evaluate the services.,\ This is a common thread in every area.

@DrEricDing @Chaela1982 @PeterHotez @mehdirhasan @MehdiHasanShow Long Covid and post infection complications should be part of daily briefings and media updates. Mask v mild infection and mask v disability, serious complications are very different discussions. We are being asked to rely on advice without full info.
@DrEricDing @Chaela1982 @PeterHotez @mehdirhasan @MehdiHasanShow I started working on health and disability law and policy during the early days of the AIDs epidemic through CFS/ME What's coming next in Covid is huge and the public has no idea. My short list:
@DrEricDing @Chaela1982 @PeterHotez @mehdirhasan @MehdiHasanShow - impact on the health care sys. Is there a plan to educate family docs, NP. ER docs etc what to look for, where to get reliable info. Is there a mentoring program?

The numbers the govt is using aren't publicly available and need to be clarified. The latest data on PHAC shows 60,515,160 delivered as of Jan 28 (not including tests the Prov bought). 51,892,170 were deployed as of Dec 31 including tests the Prov bought. 9,681,629 used
The number used includes tests purchased privately. Ontario does not publicly report what they are doing with the tests. While schools were desperately asking for tests the province had 20 mil tests avail. canada.ca/en/public-heal…

Trudeau's speech tonight in Parliament during an emergency debate on the convoy. A court injunction this afternoon banned honking for 10 days. The judge said honking wasn't speech to convey an idea.
The mayor declared a state of emergency! Gingrich, Dr Santis and a move by the far right leadership candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada to hire a new US-linked campaign manager seems to have galavanized opposition in the CPC
Michael Chong, a CPC member of Parliament called for the convoy to end when he spoke. Good chance he will join the leadership race. He's run before.
