1/ Had a class from Somerville public schools visit the @medialab yesterday. On our way out we passed @jovialjoy's office and her glorious AI ain't I a woman poster. The kids stopped walking, they were mesmerized
2/ So we stopped. I had been teaching the class about AI so I explained that these companies had algorithms that misclassified black women. I pointed to the picture of Michelle Obama see the algorithm thought she was a man with a hair piece
3/ It got quiet. Then this 10 year old boy yells THAT'S RACIST. Super loud. It felt like his words echoed through the Lab
