De mortuis nil nisi bonum. But, may be, we should use the word Banyan Tree his sister used for #SPBalasubramanyam in a different context. Simply put, he didn't allow anyone to grow. Neither his siter Sailaja nor his son Charan got any support from him.
One can understand not promoting those without talent. But, shouldn't he have supported them after they proved their worth? Literally, no one knew that those great songs from Varsham or Manasantha Nuvve or Murari are sing by him. What went wrong?
Ultimately, his son wasn't able to compete with his father and left Telugu industry. Both Sailaja and Charan could have achieved more. Look at Krishna or ANR or NTR. Yes. It's nepotism. But, that's how life works. Charan's personal life was a disaster.
That's where you would guage the success of SPB as a person. The affection between father and son wasn't missing either, even in public. That makes one wonder if SPB understood what he is doing. Either he is too busy or he is too naive to understand the damage he did.
A close relative of mine was telling a while ago - when he went to his office one day, there was a man in his 50ssitting, waiting for him. Pithapuram Nageswara Rao it was. He introduced himself(his name is known and people didn't recognise him in person).
He was there in the office to get a loan. Madhavapeddi Satyam came as his surety. He was saying, When Ghantasala was alive, he used to leave some songs for us. Event Satyam used to leave some songs for us so that everyone can survive in the industry.
With tears in eyes he continued, all changed now - SPB sings all and leaves none for anyone. We are almost out of industry. I am here for this loan to create some sort of living. How can you console such a person - a person with fame shedding tears before a stranger in public?
One can understand such treatment to others. But, what I didn't understand was that, his son also got the same treatment. Makes me wonder if he really understood the consequences of his actions? I will still want to believe there is malice in what SPB did.
He just..didn't understand. A great singer he is, let's remember him for his achievements and nothing else. In fact, one can also argue, Charan failed because he is his father's son - putting it in Sailaja's words,
it's not just Charan, but any son who is the same profession as his father faces this problem - he is not as good as his father. Nagarjuna too faced that questions. Add no nepotism to this.

These verses are interesting. The host facing Sudasa is much powerful than him but he was able to defeat them. Now, if one dates this to 1900 BC, it possibly means people from the South moved north to divert the major rivers to stop Mohenjodaro from flooding. And that would mean flooding of Sudasa's kingdom - the point of argument here being, Indra supported the weak Sudasa against his enemies even though some of them were pious because they sided Adharma - diverting rivers and stealing cows. This battle talks more of desperation from every side than any totentanz towards glory.Image

Now, Sharmaji wrote the names in reverse -> Notice, he crossed Vipas first and then Sutudri. In the Dasarajna, he crossed Parusni. That means he ruled in the area between those three rivers(cross South and North) -> major city being Harappa. The question then would be, what is the time when Harappa was hemmed from all sides?Image

When the Rani of Jhansi realized that the fort is about to fall, there was absolute silence for some time. The outer corridor has already fallen while the Rani was holed up in the inner fort. One fine day, the main gates opened and bust out of it, the Rani in person with an escort of 500 mercenaries and the royal treasury on a state elephant amidst.
They charged directly into the cannons, destroying them and breaking away. She didn't jump out of a window in the night. She crashed through the main gate in pomp. The British took some time to realize what happened and the hunt started.
By then, the troops split the treasury and scattered(to join back again at a rendezvous). A considerable number of them weren't able to reach the rendezvous and the most prominent amongst them was a heavily injured Moropant Tambe, the Rani's father.

One geopolitical mess which no one bothers to look into, is North Myanmar. There is a near clean demarcation between Tai, Burmese and Chin. You can ignore Chin - even till 1900, they were primitive tribes. Real deal here is the Shan and their allied Kachin. Image
Now, if you expand the scope out of Myanmar, you will see that there are historically two Tai nodes - one in the West, including Tai Ahom and their parent state Mongkwang, and one in the East centred around Thailand. The eastern node is not our concern. Image

So, was reading some book over Sangam Era history. Some important points. While I am not happy with the quality of scholarship, the book, however, reveals some interesting insights.
1. The earliest kingdom Tamils know is that of Nagas. Nagas ruled from Puhar and they were conquered by Cholas. The story is exactly identical to Pallava conquest of Chutu Naga Vaijayanti. This means that Tamils had no concept of a kingdom before 200-250 AD.
2. The historic trajectory is divided into two sets of tribes - the first wave is just tribes which mainstreamed themselves like the Vedar, Kurumbar and others. They just had raw valour unlike the next wave including Malavar, Kosar and others who were sophisticated militarily. In fact, Malavar is assumed to be first ones who used horses in the Tamil country.
3. There is not much clarity on the origin of tribes: They can be local, nomadic and pastoral, or they can be remnants of armies which marched from the North. For instance, around 250-300 AD or so, we start hearing of Kongans - is that a variant of the word Ganga, indicating Ganga armies?
