The 7 deadly sins and a Stoic response

Incorporating the 8th archetype

Integrity not Lust
Sacrifice not gluttony
Growth not Greed
Competence not Envy
Humility not Pride
Power not Sloth
Transcendence not Wrath

///THREAD///
The Stoics had their 4 virtues

Wisdom, Justice, Courage, and Temperance

These virtues in themselves have the strength to overcome the 7 deadly sins

But what words did Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus use in the battle against the 7 deadly sins
Integrity not Lust

"Where another man prays 'Grant that I may possess this woman,' let your own prayer be, 'Grant that I may not lust to possess her."

- Marcus Aurelius
"Many men will meet me who are drunkards, lustful, ungrateful, greedy, and excited by the frenzy of ambition. I will view all these as benignly as a physician does his patients"

- Seneca
Sacrifice not Gluttony

"Until we have begun to go without them, we fail to realize how unnecessary many things are. We've been using them not because we needed them but because we had them."

- Seneca
"Just keep in mind: the more we value things outside our control, the less control we have."

- Epictetus
Growth not Greed

"Asked, Who is the rich man? Epictetus replied - He who is content."

― Epictetus

“It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor. ”

― Seneca
Competence not Envy

"A wise man is content with his lot whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not."

- Seneca

"Envy is the antagonist of the fortunate."

- Epictetus
Humility not Pride

“If someone is able to show me that what I think or do is not right, I will happily change, for I seek the truth, by which no one was ever truly harmed. It is the person who continues in his self-deception and ignorance who is harmed.”

― Marcus Aurelius
"If evil be said of thee, and if it be true, correct thyself; if it be a lie, laugh at it."

― Epictetus

“No man is crushed by misfortune unless he has first been deceived by prosperity.”

― Seneca
Power not Sloth

“Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.”

― Seneca

“To refrain from imitation is the best revenge.”

― Marcus Aurelius

“Kindness is invincible.”

― Marcus Aurelius
Transcendence not Wrath

"I must die. Must I then die lamenting? I must be put in chains. Must I then also lament? I must go into exile. Does any man then hinder me from going with smiles and cheerfulness and contentment?"

― Epictetus
“Non est ad astra mollis e terris via" - "There is no easy way from the earth to the stars.”

― Seneca

“What we do now echoes in eternity.”

― Marcus Aurelius

I used to struggle with my energy and focus.
I always felt rushed. Stressed out. And frustrated

Why? Because I had no structure or systems to shape my days.

Now...These 5 strategies help me get more done in a day in my business than I used to in a week:
1. Know my best hours:

I do my best work when I feel most energized.

Early in the morning are my focus hrs.

But remember... Your best hrs for one type of work will not be the best hrs for another kind.

E.g. I do focus work in the morning and creative work in the afternoon.
2. Allocate my energy:

You have limited energy daily

I used to waste my high energy on low-value work:
• Emails
• Chores
• Worrying
• Notifications

Use your high energy on important work to get your desired results in your business

Always put important in front of urgent

I used to suck at organizing my days and weeks.

10 years ago...one conversation changed the way I think about self-performance.

I was introduced to Big Rocks. I have now used this method daily to do less dumb sh*t and start a 6-figure business.

Let me show you how it works:
“Stephen...can you walk me through your Big Rocks for this coming week?”

I responded, “I’m sorry...what are Big Rocks?”

This was my first 1 to 1 meeting with the Western Director of the company I was working for...
I was new to the company at the time and a few years into my personal development journey.

I had come across goal setting and prioritization. But not Big Rocks.

The conversation that followed with my director changed the way I looked at personal performance...

One of the most powerful concepts you need to learn to succeed in life.

Closing Open Loops.

Solve the problem 99% of people struggle with:
Is your mind always switched on?

Does your mind think about all the items on your to-do list?

Are you often reminded about projects you started two years ago that you never finished?

Do you struggle with procrastination because you have so much on?

You suffer from Open Loops.
What is an Open Loop?

An Open Loop is anything pulling at your attention. Stopping you from reaching states of flow.

Often these items are out of focus and NOT on your to-do list.

You never closed the loop and completed the work.

So your subconscious keeps thinking about it.

Today is the 1st Monday of the 3rd quarter.

Have you planned out your next 90-day sprint for your business and life?

If not. I have compiled a 5-step 90-Day Planning System to help boost your results and avoid the summer slump.

And I am giving it to you today for FREE:
Step 1: 3 Pillars:

Pick the 3 major areas of your life.

For example:
• Health
• Wealth
• Relationships

Then pick 1 BIG goal from each category you want to work on and accomplish over the next 90-days.

Make them achievable but not super easy.
Step 2: Set Milestones:

What do you have to complete by the end of these 90-days?

Break that down into 30-day chunks.

For each goal...you selected what must be completed.

Have 30 and 60-day milestones.

This will help you stay on track to achieve your goals by the end of Q3.

7 Levels of WHY.

An effective mental exercise that WILL help you get clarity and improve your focus in life and business:
Finding your WHY is one of the most important exercises you can do.

“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born, and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain

How do you do it?
This technique gets to the root of your WHY by asking yourself WHY 7 times.

You can learn astonishing things about yourself and your motivations when you ask WHY. You peel back layers and get clear on WHY you do what you do.

It's easier to take action when you know your WHY

Do you live two lives?

Each day you wake up...and want to be your best...hit all your daily targets.

But...you don’t.

This means you have an Integrity Gap.

The person you show up as...is different from who you want to be.

Let me show you 4 effective ways to close your gap:
Framing why "gurus" get this wrong:

Over 90% of coaching gurus will tell you to raise your bar to improve.

They are way off

The way to improve
The way to close your Integrity Gap

Is to improve your baseline standards and do less dumb sh*t

These 4 areas will help you do that:
1. Fear of new:

There are areas in life right now where you are fearing change.

You are stuck doing what you are used to. It no longer serves you. Your actions today don't align with your future.

You've got attached to routines and thoughts that are slowing you down...
