There are many good critiques of this new chilling government guidance for PSHE, but I'd like to highlight in particular:

1. The government expects Muslim *children* to *have to* condemn actions of terrorists who claim to act in the name of Islam

gov.uk/guidance/plan-…
This is outrageous. The idea of having to condemn the actions of those you have nothing to do with, is unacceptable in general & even more so, for young children

It is important children learn that they aren't responsible for the actions of others, and have no duty to condemn
2. The choice to exclude Islamophobia from the guidance (noting government line that it is not a type of racism so is not included *at all*) not only speaks to the way the gvt prioritises the racism that suits it politically

It also speaks to how Islamophobia is totally ignored
3. The government is considering an "extreme position" to be accusations against the state (eg. Islamophobia is an institutional problem in the governing Party & in the policies it enacts?) which they determine to be "unsubstantiated"

Who will be the arbiter of this? Astonishing
4. The idea that promoting "divisive or victim narratives" is an extreme position if it is "harmful to British society" is astonishing.

Who decides if calling out the Islamophobia in our society falls under this? Is it Islamophobic groups that have influence at the top of gvt?
On my first tweet in this thread, the reason why I state that this affects children, is because it calls failure to condemn an "extreme political stance" objectively.

What is the consequence of that for (all?) children who do not want to be deemed to have an "extreme" stance?
We have to be honest about what this is doing - it is imposing the government's political narrative (which is seen to ignore Muslims if not being actively against Muslims) on its guidance for schools.

It's unacceptable
And whilst some may claim that it is not biased etc., let's be clear.

Whilst the government's rule breaking is well established, that would never put it in scope. This is targeting others...those it doesn't like.

The Jewish Chronicle is clearly an awful news outlet under Jake Wallis-Simons & it's good to see columnists abandon the sinking ship

But let's not forget how its vile attitude to Muslims has been a consistent feature & was very present under Pollard 👇🏾

But it is fair to say Jake Wallis Simons has a particularly awful history during his editorship of the paper.

His attitude towards Muslims is vile. Image
But his defence of Douglas Murray, his attacks on ordinary protestors, his attacks on journalists, his attacks on even calling for a ceasefire, are just a small snippet of his awful views.

The Home Secretary is treading on dangerous ground here.

A peaceful demonstration is being slurred as "an intimidating mob" and a chant heard at the rally is being mischaracterised.

This is not okay. Thread.
This protest was almost entirely peaceful with minimal arrests.

With a protest of this size, there are always a handful of idiots, but from the reporting it seems there were far less than for example at this pro-Israel rally a couple of years ago.

The idea that those exercising their democratic right to protest it show solidarity to Palestinians, are somehow an "intimidating mob" is just not okay.

After her racist smear was forcibly corrected (ht @cfmmuk), a source close to Braverman admits:

When referring to the 'grooming gangs phenomenon', she only meant high profile cases where Pakistani men were involved & not all group-based child sexual abuse
bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
Whilst this source calls the ruling "perverse", they are clearly wrong:

Only calling high-profile group-based child sexual abuse done by Pakistani men as "grooming gangs" is an astonishing admission, unjustifiable and incorrect Image
The IPSO ruling makes it clear how it is inaccurate. It is not a "political attack" - merely the correction of a false racist smear.

Outrageous the Home Secretary defends Douglas Murray as "mainstream"

She is *actively* promoting a man who said objectively racist & extreme things such as “Conditions for Muslims in Europe must be made harder across the board" & who has defended Tommy Robinson

But there's more

Douglas Murray says London has become "foreign" because "in 23 of London's 33 boroughs "white Britons" are now in a minority" i.e. being non-white, means you are foreign and can't be British

Is the government view *really* that this is a mainstream view? @Tories4Equality Image
@Tories4Equality Murray said "less Islam" is a solution to terrorism (whilst talking about Muslims).

Is it *really* a government position that this is a "mainstream" view and not extreme?

Disgusting

Shawcross, Gove & The Times appear to want to publish names of who they consider to be "extreme" Muslims/Muslim groups as part of their attempt to refocus Prevent on Muslims & not the far right

This is after a far-right terror attack against a migrant centre

Thread
ICYMI Shawcross said "..Islam is one of the greatest, most terrifying problems of our future"

He targeted Muslim charities. He defended torture. He seems to even have wanted Foreign Office officials to mock Islam

Much more - see 👇🏽
ICYMI Baroness Warsi said she was genuinely "fearful of the idea of Michael Gove becoming prime minister" due to "his views on British Muslims"

Gove promoted Douglas Murray, pushed the Trojan Horse story & was a fan of people like Maajid Nawaz

Hundreds of thousands of people have seen this far-right Islamophobic conspiracy theory on GB News go unchallenged

It is appalling, unacceptable & downright dangerous

One has to wonder where @KeithPrinceAM & so many others with such views get their news from...scary
Whilst @KeithPrinceAM has now apologised and a few thousand have seen the apology, the GB News tweet with the conspiracy theory remains up with no clarifying tweet from @GBNEWS.

It'd almost as if they want the conspiracy theory to be shared. Image
Does anyone know if they apologised on-air and just didn't clip it up?
