BREAKING: US President Donald Trump nominates Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court.
"This is my third such nomination... a very proud moment indeed," said Trump.
In his speech, Trump said Coney Barrett had "unyielding loyalty" to the Constitution and praised Ruth Bader Ginsburg for her contribution to women's rights.
"This should be a non-controversial and fast confirmation", added Trump, praising Coney Barrett's academic qualifications.
Amy Coney Barrett: "Ruth Bader Ginsburg smashed glass ceilings... she was a woman of enormous talent and consequence." Coney Barrett went on to emphasize that she will apply the law as it is.
She will be the 9th justice in the US Supreme Court.
The Republican-majority Senate is likely to back Barrett, paving the way for a more conservative top court.
