oh ffs my governor lies so much about Disney even I can’t keep up. I’m noticing he’s claiming he “saved” taxpayers money & he’s gloating about those who predicted taxes would go up. He’s being deliberately misleading. There were TWO BILLS. /1
The first bill in 2021 repealed the Reedy Creek Improvement District outright. RCID had over $1 billion in municipal bond debt. Destroying the district would’ve dumped that debt on the taxpayers of Orange & Osceola County. /2 mediaite.com/opinion/conser…

There were a pile of complicated legal obstacles too in the Florida Statutes & the original charter that created RCID. Long story short: municipal bond debt gets good credit rating from its stability & there are legal barriers to f***ing with it. /3 lawandcrime.com/high-profile/f…

Same people who scream that the Supreme Court needs to step in and rescue Trump from all the legal messes he’s gotten himself into are acting like Disney doesn’t have the resources or ability to appeal today’s ruling. I stand by what I’ve written & said on this matter. /1
It IS an egregious violation of 1A rights for the government to revoke the rights of just one landowner to vote for their special taxing district board because they criticized a bill. This is a dangerous precedent to set & I don’t want gov’t weaponized this way against anyone. /2
And what DeSantis’ puppet board is doing at Disney isn’t winning culture wars, it’s making the parks less safe. They literally voted to defund the police, eliminating the entire $8 million budget used to hire off duty @OrangeCoSheriff deputies. /3 mediaite.com/opinion/desant…

I am having trouble finding the words to articulate how utterly depraved this is. Ladapo is a quack. He should not be our surgeon general. He should not have a tenured job at the UF College of Medicine. He probably shouldn’t have a medical license. /1
Ladapo is wildly misleading in talking about DNA. Your DNA doesn’t change when exposed to other DNA. You don’t mutate every time you have sex with someone or turn into a mosquito if one bites you. The risk he’s warning about doesn’t exist at all! Can’t happen. /2
The lies Ladapo tells get people killed by scaring them away from a safe vaccine that’s been given billions of times. Every possible post-vaccine complication is a lower risk than that same harm from covid. Ladapo ALTERED data to LIE about risks. /3 cnn.com/2023/04/25/hea…

ICYMI, last month, DeSantis' puppet board was moving to eliminate the $8 million budget for off-duty cops to provide security on Disney property. This is just catastrophically dumb; that visible police presence is a deterrent to criminals & terrorists. /2 mediaite.com/opinion/desant…
It's important to note the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) was Disney paying EXTRA taxes so it could provide its own high level of infrastructure & services. It still paid county taxes even though it wasn't asking the counties to provide water, utilities, roads etc. /3

“Highest enrollment ever” comes from recruiting a pile of new student athletes w/substandard test scores even though this tiny college has nearly zero athletic facilities. They kicked existing students out of the dorms, sent them to off campus hotel to make room for the athletes.
DeSantis is bragging about cancelling an entire degree program, & his appointed board cancelled programs & other classes just weeks before the semester started. Students are worried they can’t finish their major, thesis, many professors have left so they lost their advisers etc.
Just imagine how horrible & stressful that would be, to be heading back to college & your governor’s appointees have cancelled several of your classes, kicked you out of the dorm, & your adviser is gone. How are you supposed to finish your degree?

DeSantis is now attacking Disney as “a multibillion dollar company that sexualizes children” — a scurrilous lie.

Pay attention, businesses: if you oppose DeSantis in the tiniest way, he’ll smear you as a pervert & child abuser. He’s declared war on the core of our state economy.

We have no state income tax. Property taxes are kept artificially low thru 1,800+ special taxing districts like at Disney where landowners consent to pay more. Tourists contribute to sales & gas taxes, & pay a tax on every hotel night stay. Whole system fails without tourists. /3
