These apples look great. This is part of why we do GMO's in the first place. We can engineer the "perfect" apple, controlling for things like weight, shape, color and shelf life. They then get a beauty treatment of wax and polish to finish the look...
and after 2 months, they look just as good as when I bought them. But how will they taste? I'm not really willing to find out by biting into one after being in my fridge for so long
compare these to what you find in heirloom varieties. They may be a little more dull looking, not having had the wax treatment, and they will almost never be uniform in their appearance, size and shape, even within the same variety...
but with an heirloom variety, you know when you're getting a bad apple. the evidence is more obvious because it hasnt had all the trickery and modifications to make it look appealing beyond its shelf life. Some GMO apples dont even bruise...
tying back into the podcast, we had a discussion today about inner vs outer goodness. I'm left to question if we are trying too hard to create the "perfect" apple for the sake of appearances and mass appeal?...
rather than letting our fruits be good because they reflect the goodness of our father, or of our parentage, despite their not having been focused group for societal desirability and likelihood of purchase and consumption...
it is also interesting that you usually can not grow a tree from GMO'd apples. The seeds are completely useless and there is no increase to the thing you have created,
While this heirloom variety retains the potential for good fruit, year after year...
In summation;
There are formulas for the appearance of goodness, that comes at the cost of a good nature and heritage.
Our goodness comes from our Divine heritage and potential, not from our mass appeal and desirability...
True authentic goodness is beautiful because it reflects the goodness of our Father in Heaven.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
“We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents. It may be safely trusted as proportionate and of good issues, so it be faithfully imparted, but God will not have his work made manifest by cowards.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

for Christmas the last 3 years, I have been equipping my children with weapons to wage battle with each other in the backyard. The wife and I have noticed a couple of things happen, as our children (both boys & girls) engage in aggressive play;
1. They spend way more time outside, because thats the only place to safely engage with the implements of destruction (they can wrestle and fight indoors, but if they want to swing swords or clubs at each other, gotta take it outside) Theyre way more active than their peers
2. They learn to pull their punches. The first couple of battles were rough, people got hurt and came in crying, but we tried not to police it for them, we allowed the natural desire for cooperative play to dictate the terms...
Seeing the constant enumeration of callings and achievements within the Church before apostatizing, and the consequent deterioration of moral standards post-church membership on display as though it speaks to some credibility to then pass judgement on the Church's doctrines...
All you have actually managed to do is convince me you never progressed beyond the conventional-morality stage of development, whereby your motivation was completely wrapped up in social approval or conformity...
you tell on yourself when you list your bona fides, assured that we will revere them the way you did of others (driven by social approvals)...
"Government shouldnt be in marriage at all" sounds like a nice, neutral place to be, but it denies the purpose of marriage and ignores the consequences to society that rearing children inside of some social experiment will have. It does affect you, and it affects your kids.
Libertarianism is lukewarm where the gospel is concerned. It's a false god that too many Latter-day Saints worship because they think it slices through social issues with some precision. It simply abdicates responsibility for societal ills
Its appealing because you get to be "hands off" in advocating that your government, which is supposed to represent YOU and YOUR interests, reflect what you know to be best. Government has a major role to play in ensuring the kind of environment that perpetuates a healthy society
A common theme among the #HeavenlyMother crowd appears to be that, feeling disaffected, they ventured to pray to someone other than God, and by golly, someone answered with sweet affirming reassurances that yes, Priesthood leaders are wrong
I love that all that is required to access this knowledge of #HeavenlyMother is to hate the patriarchy.
Perhaps it's some connection to the divine feminine suffering, as #HeavenlyMother labors under the oppressive rule of her God-husband. Maybe mortal woman must first find herself under such circumstances before her spirit is primed to realize a God after her own image
