Now that the @nytimes has exposed the deep financial trouble that Donald Trump is in, can we revisit all those times he has used *our* Presidency to funnel money into his failing properties?
Trump’s Turnberry property showed losses for four straight years.
Remember the shady deal he made to lease our USPS building to build his hotel in D.C.?

Of course, after he got it, he welshed on the parts that he agreed to.
But once he got that D.C. hotel, he could really start profiting from *our* Presidency.

A lobbyist for Saudi Arabia bought up 500 of his rooms after the 2016 election.

Boy, I bet that *really* helped Trump out of a bind, didn’t it?

washingtonpost.com/politics/saudi…
Surely that massive favor didn’t have anything to do with Trump bypassing Congress to try to make an $8 billion arms sale to the Saudi kingdom, right?

I mean, even *Republicans* tried to block this one, but he just couldn’t refuse Saudi Arabia, could he?

vanityfair.com/news/2019/07/d…
Remember when we learned that he was *bigly* overcharging the Secret Service to stay and eat at his properties?

Boy, if it weren’t for this whole Presidency thing, Trump probably would have needed a major con just to stay out of the poor house. Like maybe Trump TV.
Of course, we all knew that his crown jewel - the Doral resort - was also having major revenue issues.

washingtonpost.com/politics/trump…
How could Trump inject some much-needed cash into his failing Doral property?

He could use the power of the Presidency to try to force world leaders to spend lots of money there - he could get cash from other countries’ tax coffers too!

Wow.

Look what a District Court Judge in North Carolina just said about the SCOTUS immunity decision.

Unprompted. This case was completely unrelated.
Image
The case is unrelated, but is important in its own right and should get more coverage.

A court clerk was sexually harassed, but ultimately denied relief due to the way system works.

It’s almost a no-win situation for victims and that should be news.

storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
For background on the case (she was a public defender when the harassment occurred):

“A former federal public defender’s employment discrimination case highlights the reality that judges are above many of the laws they enforce.”

The Trump campaign’s panicked move & statement today about Project 2025 are absolutely comical.

They are desperately trying to kill the *name* “Project 2025” - to delete the word from the election.

Here are a few reasons why nothing they say matters at all.

A short thread.
/1 Image
First, the group that created Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation, has immense power over the GOP; it has built it over decades.

How much? Consider this: We have been ceding Pacific access rights to China - for 12 years and counting.

Because Heritage doesn’t like the UN.
/2
Trump was the first POTUS to give Heritage so much direct control over the Presidency.

Why? Because he needs them. They and their sister groups are who organize right wing voter turnout, especially evangelicals.

That is why, in 2016, he basically let them pick his staff.

The Epoch Times started their money laundering operation sometime in 2020.

After the 2020 election, they began producing more propaganda for Trump and becoming involved in stop the steal efforts.

Somewhat symbiotic. Trump massively boosted them, and they helped him.

The highly polished propaganda video that Holehouse (an Epoch Times alum until 2015) published, seemed custom made for the Trump campaign, and he boosted it four times. 2 million views.

Trump supporters began driving up the company’s stature. 6 million followers on Facebook.

As early as Dec 1 2020, Epoch Times subsidiary NTD began broadcasting the “Kraken” press conferences (Jenna Ellis, Phil Kline, Tony Shaffer).

By March, Lauren Boebert was promoting them as the most trusted source of information when people wanted Dems locked up.

I’ve always said that while there were some normal human bad decisions in Fani Willis’ relationship, they weren’t enough to justify all of this - and what *should* get way more coverage is the crusade against her, and against the rule of law.

Now it’s more important than ever.
And this is why it’s more important than ever.

So far, there have been almost no consequences for Republicans who attack our institutions to protect criminals.

The media is practically helping them normalize it, but some solidarity helps - and staying focused headed into Nov.

I think it’s important for people to see Ben Smith’s interview with Joe Kahn, Executive Editor of the New York Times, so I’m posting screenshots of the full article here.

The fact that he misrepresents and strawmans people’s issues with their reporting is really concerning.

I appreciate that @semaforben got Kahn to answer questions about this, but I’m also disappointed at the soft touch questions that tiptoe around elephants in the room, which IMO silently confirms that NYT is avoiding real accountability for any of this.

@semaforben At one point in the interview, after claiming that the NYT’s role is to inform the public, Kahn even admits that citizens are woefully uninformed or misinformed about highly important issues.

But then he walks right past it, making clear that isn’t really his priority at all.

I try my best not to weigh in on topics that I’m not well versed on, and don’t weigh in on divisive, emerging events until I can share what I believe is reliable info. The same goes for the Palestine protests.

If anyone cares about my personal views, I will say this much.

/1
What is happening in Gaza is a humanitarian nightmare. I blame Netanyahu, Likud, and the right wing extremists who control the government.

They are Israel’s Trump and MAGA. Bibi is corrupt. His actions harm Israel on the world stage. An authoritarian who inflames divisions.

/2
I believe Bibi let the people of Israel down. He shuffled funds to Hamas to keep Gaza & the West Bank divided b/c he wants to undermine the very idea that Palestinians should have their own state.

He pulled resources to help extremists push more settlements, ensuring a 10/7.
