Two more Iowans have died from coronavirus, pushing Iowa's total to 1,317.

Deaths were reported in Linn and Woodbury Counties.

Since September 1, 196 Iowans have died from this disease.

Please mourn the dead and support loved ones and caregivers.

In addition to the two deaths reported, Iowa reports hospitalizations for COVID-19 are up to 353, the highest level since late May, including 96 in intensive care and 39 on ventilators.

There were 51 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in the last 24-hour period.

Between 10 am Sept. 27 and 10 am Sept. 28, there were 611 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 86,840.

Of the new ones, 71 were kids under age 18, for a total of 7,219.

That's up 793 kids who have tested positive in the last week and up 2,681 since Sept. 1.

The 611 new cases were confirmed on 7,315 new tests reported (up from 778,699 to 786,014), for a rate showing COVID-19 of 8.4%.

Subtracting deaths (1,317) and "recoveries" (66,191), there are 19,332 active cases of coronavirus in Iowa - roughly 1 out of every 164 Iowans!

The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 264 new cases for total of 33,675 cases.

They had no new deaths reported, so stay at 439.

On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 deaths.

Sioux County had the most new cases in the 77 counties.

For the 12th day in the last 13, Sioux (pop. 35,000) had more new cases than Story (pop. 97,000) and Johnson (pop. 147,000).

Range of tests reported: Palo Alto was up 1 on 8 tests reported (12.5%) while Jackson was up 1 on 70 tests reported (1.4%).

Overall, 60 of the 77 counties had new cases reported.

No new cases: Adair, Adams, Butler, Cass, Decatur, Dickinson, Greene, Humboldt, Jefferson, Lucas, Monroe, Montgomery, Page, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wayne.

Least testing: Adair (up 0 new cases), Allamakee (up 0 new cases), and Palo Alto (1 new case) with 8 tests reported.
