@snowbullcapital In China, MIC SR+ Model 3s are already rolling off the line with CATL’s LFP batteries. Interestingly, the new batteries weigh the same as LG Chem’s batteries in MIC LR RWD Model 3s.
@snowbullcapital In terms of MIC Model Y, the Fremont Model Y assembly engineering team has been at GF3 during the factory ‘shut down’ last week building NEW Model Y lines (not retooling existing Model 3 lines, as many thought).
@snowbullcapital The Model Y lines are going to be nearly identical to the most recent Model Y line at Fremont, at first. That won't take long.
@snowbullcapital Also, retooling for the new Kuka robots has already begun at GF3. The same German engineering team that programmed the Kukas at Fremont (and GF1 & GF2) worked alongside the Tesla Model Y assembly engineering team from Fremont during last week’s factory shut down.
@snowbullcapital In addition to the German Kuka team, the Japanese Fanuc team was also ‘retooling’ (programming) the new Fanuc robots at GF3 at the end of August. We believe this was primarily on the Model 3 lines.
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica We expect this to inevitably increase production efficiency as it did when similar lines were retooled with the same Kuka and Fanuc robots at Fremont, increasing production efficiency by 55-60%.
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica So, with GF3 being more automated than Fremont, the addition of the new robots to the already-highly automated Model 3 lines could get production up to >800/day (+60%).
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica This, and the addition of a third shift DURING the Chinese national holiday starting last night (when most thought it would be completely shut down for the next week) increases our Q4 estimates for Model 3 production out of Shanghai to 62,855.
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica One of the indicators we will be looking for in Q4 is weaker #Model3 demand in China due to the impressive domestic EV competition, namely BYD Han and Xiaopeng P7. @BYDCompany @XpengMotors $BYDDF $BYDDY $XPEV
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica @BYDCompany @XpengMotors Such an indication of decreased demand would be if GF3 begins exporting MIC Model 3s to South Korea in Q4. If domestic demand for MIC Model 3s is REALLY weak, we could see retooling of Model 3 lines for RHD in Q4.
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica @BYDCompany @XpengMotors We don’t expect Tesla to retool GF3 Model 3 lines for RHD until Q1 2021. We think the RHD retooling will likely take place during the Chinese New Year, as initial RHD retooling took 8 days in Fremont.
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica @BYDCompany @XpengMotors Either way, they’ll sell the cars, but this would sound the macro alarms for Chinese demand, ESPECIALLY if sales are poor following last night’s 8% price cut for the base Model 3.
@snowbullcapital @elonmusk @FANUCAmerica @BYDCompany @XpengMotors A note on RHD retooling: once a line is initially retooled, switching between LHD and RHD becomes really easy (~3 hrs), as the robots are already programmed.

ARK locks its Tesla models, but we unlocked them. I'm going to dig into @ARKInvest’s new Tesla model this weekend, but before that, let's look at what ARK thought about 2023.

[Unanswered issues with past two years’ models quote-tweeted here] @wintonARK
Remember, just last year, ARK’s bull case figured Tesla would sell 3 million cars in 2023—its bear case 2.4 million. It also thought Tesla would do $174B in automotive revenue this year (2022 model bull case), or $141B on the low-end (2022 bear case). In Q1 2023, it did $19.4B.
In 2020, @ARKInvest thought Tesla would do $315 billion in revenue in 2023. Tesla did less than 10% of that in the first quarter so far.

So Bloomberg came out with a story this morning about how Jack Ma is staying away from China.

A few hours later, Jack Ma was literally visiting a school in Hangzhou, and Bloomberg had to "update" its entire article.

You can't make this stuff up.😂
The authors of the story are no longer listed (LMAO), but you can still find them in the metadata.
A video surfaced yesterday of what looked to be Jack Ma in a vehicle in China. "China watchers" were dismissing it, saying the video wasn't taken recently. People were even trying to decode an inspection sticker to prove Ma couldn't possibly be in China.

What's the state of Tesla's "Full Self-Driving" initiative? Is it improving? How does it compare to other companies' systems?

Data-driven thread below:
In March, I tweeted this thread putting Tesla's FSD beta disengagement rates into perspective. You could barely see Tesla on the charts.

Okay, so Tesla was nowhere close to the big boys nine months ago, but has it improved since?
Let's again use the only known crowd-sourced Tesla FSD beta data.

The overall miles per disengagement rate on FSD beta is actually getting *worse*, down -54% Y/Y.

So re: the whole Tesla robotaxi thing: how does Tesla plan to address the inherent blind spots its cars have? Image
I know I've mentioned this a lot in the past, but I think more people need to be having this conversation.
Because there are a lot of people who bought these cars and the stock on the idea that Tesla would have millions of robotaxis roaming around by now.

J.P. Morgan's 2022 Global Autos Survey just came out. This is a good indicator of demand going into 2023.

JPM says, "As compared to our survey results from 2021, we see evidence across countries such that consumers are less likely to buy a new car in 2023." Image
Top brand preference for budget friendly EVs is typically Toyota and Volkswagen, and BYD in China. Image
For premium EVs, Tesla is still a favorite in most countries, followed by Audi. Image
