The locating of thousands more misplaced test results have pushed Liverpool’s infection rate to over 400 per 100,000 - a staggering and really scary number for a city with some of the worst historic health issues that make fighting this virus so much harder
To anyone still trying to claim this virus isn’t real, listen to the doctors in the city who are already seeing covid wards fill up and are presenting for much worse - remember how many people here died in the spring and have a long, important word with yourself
If you refuse to do the right thing, you could easily pass this disease to someone with COPD or heart disease (we have unusually high levels of both here) and they will find it much harder to beat the virus

Oh and if you keep saying ‘but hospital admissions are low’ here is the clinical lead of critical care at Liverpool’s main hospital to tell you otherwise

It's terrible to see local businesses taking decisions to close because of the new restrictions

The answer isn't to have no action at all, because the region's infection rates are dangerously out of control

The answer is for instant, proper funding support from government
Obviously the real answer is to have a fully operational, efficient test and trace system, but apparently after 7 months that was too much to ask for from this government
The Royal Liverpool Hospital's covid beds are two thirds full, ICU is 50% full - letting the virus run through our communities unchecked is simply not the answer here

It’s been a slog of a week, but it could be worse

I could be sending out press releases about a bowel-movement based dating app called Cheek2Cheek

I *shit* you not Image
'Will allow users to upload specifics about their bowel movements, bathroom habits and specifics in regards to their butt/gut health'

Great
Guess they are hoping it can trump Tinder

There seems to be a lack of awareness of our region's admittedly convoluted municipal and geographic set-up, so hope this helps:

Liverpool City Region = Merseyside + Halton

Merseyside = Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton (yes that includes Southport)
All of the areas listed above have the new restrictions, as does Warrington
Steve Rotheram is the city region Mayor for the whole region (all of Merseyside and Halton)

Joe Anderson is the Mayor for the city of Liverpool alone

I go on about this a bit but I’ll keep trying to raise awareness of the daily threats and abuse reporters get - there’s a man currently in prison for threats to kill me and it’s not ok for people to drop me an email with shit like this

So many in the industry going through this Image
Again this particular misanthrope seems deeply offended by regular, up-to-date information about the global pandemic that is sweeping the world and our communities
As @behindlocalnews showed recently, the abuse levelled at reporters right now is out of control

I spent months in the spring talking to people who lost family members to the virus, but now these two top city voices no longer think it’s a problem

Just give me strength Image
Liverpool is an incredible city but it needs to get some better spokespeople
‘I’m not a conspiracy theorist but forget the virus’

Right big day - we are working hard to cover every bit of detail that people in our region need to know as new measures are brought in, here's what we have so far (thread)
Here's the news we broke earlier, as expected, all of Merseyside will be covered by new restrictions from Tuesday - all the key details here

liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool…
It's not just Merseyside that will be covered by the new measures, there are many other places both close to us and a bit further afield

Here's everywhere that's affected:
