/ THREAD re Shotley Bridge🏥
For many years, the community of #NorthWestDurham, @UKLabour activists & Labour politicians have campaigned & fought for a new community hospital in the local area with all services retained & beds to be kept within any new hospital.
/ We are glad the government have confirmed that this will definitely go ahead as it is a much needed facility for the community & residents deserve it completely.
/ However, we already knew this was the case in 2018/2019. In fact, it was even mentioned in public engagement documents in early 2019 that the capital funding for a new build hospital had been earmarked by the CCG.
/ It is therefore disappointing but not surprising that MP, Richard Holden, is using the hard work of years of community campaigning for his own political gain. It is the local community & Labour activists who have been doing the real grassroots campaigning .
/ They were out on the streets getting signatures on petitions, handing out leaflets, talking to residents, attending engagement meetings & even doing research on costs of buses/distance to alternative local hospital facilities.
/ In fact we don't believe Mr Holden has actually done ANYTHING to progress the situation with the new community hospital that will replace Shotley Bridge🏥, except mention it in the House of Commons a number of times (🙄) & ask Ministers to confirm facts we already know.
/
Furthermore, we feel it is disrespectful to the local CCG that Mr Holden has stated in the media the location of the new hospital when NOTHING has been confirmed yet & the CCG in fact have to do another engagement process with the local community.
/ We hope this clears up some of 'facts' surrounding Shotley Bridge🏥& any new hospital that is going to be built in our local area. We will not let our new community hospital be named a ‘Boris Hospital’ or stand by silently & let this political spin happen✌️
