Violent injury from knives continues to result in tragic deaths and life changing injuries. Whether the possession of the weapon is from intent to harm or out of fear and for protection it is alarming how many times it is the same types of weapon and brands of knife #Knifecrime
One of the brands that is seen again and again in assaults and in police searches is Anglo arms. The demand for their knives consistently is high with suppliers out of stock #theresthatknifeagain #angloarms
Knives like these are clearly not manufactured with any intention to cause harm and are a high quality product but to what degree can we be sure that the purchasers of these weapons, particularly on line are for legitimate use when they are carried so much on the streets?
Is it Rambo season? #theresthatknifeagain
Is it harvest time? #theresthatknifeagain
Are so many people really on jungle expeditions this year? #theresthatknifeagain
Has the amount of hunting in the UK during lockdown really created so much demand that outstrips supply? #theresthatknifeagain
This brand is not the only weapon commonly seen but is one that crops up again and again. It’s not a kitchen utensil, it is a knife bought for a purpose and it is hard to see the vast market for these is always legitimate #theresthatknifeagain
What more can manufacturers, stores & distributors do to ensure these are only sold for the purpose they are intended? We need to address the structural violence, inequality, economy & suffering that drives possession but the availability of these weapons also has to be a factor
It is true that improvised weapons and other tools can be just as deadly, but fashions for these weapons have tragic consequences of their own for those people who just want to feel like have a status and respect for carrying them #theresthatknifeagain
The media consistently posting pictures of young people with weapons like these also has such a negative role in stereotyping and driving the wrong narrative that they are the problem.
I know that myself and many other people have asked not to post a big picture of a knife with a young person every time we have been asked to give comment in a media article but editors seem to see it as a prerequisite. The media also have a role to to play in breaking this cycle
