The Day of Arbaeen marks forty days after the Day of Ashura, the day Hussain ibn Ali was killed in the Battle of Karbala. Hussain ibn Ali was a 7th-century revolutionary leader who sacrificed his life for social justice.
The Arbaʽeen Pilgrimage, or the #ArbaeenWalk, is the world's largest annual public gathering that is held every year in Karbala, Iraq. This year, due to the outbreak of Covid19, this pilgrimage is held in a limited way. #Arbaeen2020
The number of participants in the annual pilgrimage reached 25 million or more by 2016. On the routes of the pilgrimage, food, accommodation, and other services are provided for free by volunteers. #Arbaeen2020
Arbaʽeen is consistently among the largest peaceful gatherings in history. Pilgrims from Iran, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Azerbaijan, African countries, Arab countries, and a number from Europe, the US, and Canada travel to Karbala. #Arbaeen2020
The Dutch lady took part in the Arbaeen walk with her husband and young child.
"Life and human relations in the Netherlands are really cold and I like to have a warm and intimate life here," she says.
Various religions, including Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Sunnis, Hindus, Shiites, and even secular and atheists, and other religions take part in the Arbaeen procession.
