Like it or not, most people live in an echo chamber. As such, they tend to develop one-dimensional thinking over time.
If you live someplace where everyone is fat, it's likely you'll end up fat as well. Or, at the very least, your attempts to get into shape will be met with HUGE resistance.
To crib a buzzword, your surroundings often become "The New Normal."
Here's how you shake things up:
1. Read Biographies
Reading is not a magic cure-all for your problems, and there are plenty of unexceptional and lazy people who read books.
HOWEVER, it is very rare that you meet a do-nothing who reads biographies.
Biographies, more than anything else, give you a window into the life of a real person with impressive accomplishments.
If you read "Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder" you're going to want to go out and lift weights.
If you read about Warren Buffet dynasty founding merchants and bankers, you're going to understand (and get excited for) deal making and buying assets.
I have yet to meet somebody who spent their time studying wealth and didn't increase their own net worth.
2. Remove "Can't" From Your Vocabulary
This might sounds a little Tony Robbins like, but it works. There are a lot of people who will straight up avoid going anywhere near a place that might hurt their ego or make them think.
I know people who will legitimately avoid or refuse to go into certain super nice neighborhoods because (subconsciously at least) it would hurt their self-perception that they're on top of the world and killing life.
Sam thing for getting fit. If you want to improve your physique go to a park or gym where everyone is ripped.
When you have a problem or area of improvement, pretending the problem doesn't exist is THE WORST possible thing you can do.
If you avoid thinking and self-reflection, you're going to stagnate.
Likewise, if you think you're doing well you should visit someplace where people are on the next level.
Leading into the next point.
3. Spend The Day In A Very Nice Neighborhood Or Buy Coffee At A Fancy Lounge
A cup of coffee or lemonade at a 5-star hotel is usually pretty cheap. Same goes for some of the nice lounges and bars near marinas and scenic views.
Even hanging out at a beautiful park is fine.
Spend time at these places and you get a nice atmosphere, as well as clues on what successful people are doing. This is also a great way to stimulate your own creativity or break out of whatever one-dimensional thought pattern you previously had.
If you're ever in a slump, grab a pad of paper and go somewhere nice for the day.
It'll stimulate your creativity.
