I am compelled to explain something about the Igbo apprenticeship system that other tribes will not understand and may never understand.

I am from Cross River, my parents are conc.Anglicans, my Dad is an ordained evangelist in the Anglican communion. In 2004 an Igbo Rev came..
1
To my area for missionary work, as it is the tradition with my parents, they will always take care of any pastor, Rev, serminarian or any Christian missionary. They provide accommodations and sometimes feeding for them as their own contributions to expand the godspel......
2
When he arrived he stayed in our house, my mum took him as a son, he lived with us for 5 years before he was sent to a neighboring community and he still visits my mum regularly. In 2008 he pleaded with Dad to allow him take one of my younger brother to his(Rev’s)brother in....
3
Accepted, I was part of the negotiations and he was to serve for 6 years and be settled. The Rev too him to Onitsha he started and one of the conditions is that he must live with this master. Which means after the shop, he will do home chores too and other jobs within the house
5
Now the challenges!
The apprenticeship system is a holistic training that start from 1, going to church with his master, personal financial displcipline, culture of savings, wealth distributions, waking up early, cleaning the house, washing his master’s cars, going to open to.
6
Open the shop early before the master arrives, consistency, perseverance, determination. Some may regard it as slavery, it took the trust we have for the Reverend before we allowed my brother continued, sometimes he complained of maltreatment from one of his master’s brothers.
7
Onitsha for apprenticeship, initially by dad refuse because my bro just finished his WEAC and plans were for him to start preparing for Jamb yo go and study business administration, but the Rev keep persuading and cos of the trust since he is already a part of my family, my Dad
4
Now this is where the problem is, other tribes won’t see all this as training or discipline but will see it as an enslavement and troubles will arise. Now what makes them successful is not just the act of trading they have learnt but the self discipline, financial discipline..
8
My brother stayed one extra year, instead of 6 years, he stayed 7 years because his mastered said he was still lagging in some aspects of the trade, he needs one more year brush up even if it didn’t go down well with my brother, we persuaded him to endure one more year.
9
Now the settlement. His master settled him with a one years shop rent which he paid, few items and
#250k cash. I have to mobilize my other siblings to raise 550k for him to add up&began his trade. In 2018 when I visited him in his shop I was shocked with how full the shop is.
10
He has a packing store fully loaded with spare parts. When I saw his account balance, I was proud of him. He is planning his first trip to Taiwan, Hong Kong or China to start importing containers.

One thing I learnt from him is any cash saved can only be use for investment..
11
And you can’t withdraw your savings for feeding or enjoyment. Any money for groove must be worked for afresh. Frame1 me&Rev. Frame2 Rev with my family frame3 the guy with yellow marker around his head is that my brother with my other siblings.
12. Final slide.
This is just for people to know. @AfamDeluxo @UchePOkoye
