Key issues in Tower Hamlets
On Wednesday I wrote to the Councils Overview & Scrutiny C'tee with a list of what I thought the top issues were in TH including fact that TH has the highest number of ASB incidents in the country since lockdown + the most buildings affected by
1/

cladding / fire safety issues in the country + 40% of the Councils income comes from business rates income = lots of closed business in CW estate

a. Care home deaths - how did 33 people out of 68 die in a 6 week period at Aspen Court? what happened elsewhere?

b. Cladding issues – Tower Hamlets has twice as many affected buildings as any other Borough, 282, (not including social housing blocks), we need to help residents and take a lead nationally

c. Parking / LTN - hampered by a lack of understanding about who has cars & why, one size fits all approach to road closures, why do we treat taxis differently to TfL?

d. Working from home threat to the economy of Tower Hamlets - we need a much better understanding of the scale of this challenge, the financial impact on the Council and a plan to make the area more attractive to residents, workers & businesses

e. ASB - post lockdown we now have the highest numbers of ASB incidents in the country & a subject of greatest concern to TH residents at the last Resident Survey
