Sleeping on it. Thoughts on OU’s 53-45 4OT win over UT.

1. Always great to get a win in this game, regardless of how. OU is back to .500, gains their 49th win in the series, and helped our fans avoid a really long walk to the car afterward.

Thread
2. If you’re a baseball fan, and have a team you follow, think about that good young pitcher who has great stuff, but loses his mental edge after a while. No hits through 4, then unravels a bit in the 5th. Maybe an Edinson Volquez? That’s who OU is right now.
3. Why are refs so bad? I know they watch film. And they anticipate things. Like, for example, if 6 or 44 are defending, it’s an automatic flag. The last 2 weeks OUR guys get flagged for being physical. It’s frustrating, but it’s on us. our reputation precedes us.
4. The D played extremely well for 56/60 of the game...reducing fractions, been helping with distance learning, I can do this...14/15ths of the game! Not bad! But, like a house that burns down in an hour, it stood there fire free for 45 years! Then last 2 OTs, A+ grade again.
5. As with most OU-Texas games, the team that wins the LOS wins the game. The Sooner DL got a push through most of the game, and when it didn’t, things didn’t go well. Clearly, their high effort and the 94° heavy air contributed to the fizzling late. When Perk returns, look out!
6. The OL got, wait for it, ZERO holding calls. After a complete disaster of a first series, the OL played their best ball of the season. Creed had a few bad snaps, but I assume his hands were sweaty? We will go with that. Liked what I saw from Harrison. That Texas DL was 🤢 too.
7. Rattler got rattled there in the 2nd. Lincoln wisely pulled him and whispered him back into shape. @the_real_clong compared it to Baker’s Tennessee game. And the parallel is there. I don’t think anyone was calling for Mordecai (we got him), and many were calling for TK9....
7b...Lincoln went 2-2 on those decisions. The ball he threw to Stogner on 3rd down for a TD was big time. As was the 2 point pass to Wease. His ball to Stog that was dropped on 3rd down that Klatt wouldn’t shut up about was a gutsy pass, too. We are going to like Rattler!
8. Who is Brian Darby?

9. Great to see Wease show up big time yesterday.

10. Our issue at wideout is competitive catches. Rambo struggles in that Dept. Need more guys to step up and go and get 50-50 balls. Looking forward to Haselwood’s return. But Mims and Wease getting there
11. Woodi Washington fan club sign ups are here: (insert link)

12. Loved Washington, Eaton, and Davis out there. Not here to drag the veterans but I think our future is trending properly at DB. Oh and nice pick by Tre at end. He had a rough day/year prior to that.
13. How weird was it when the refs gave Texas 36 seconds on that spot review on Ehlinger’s run in the 4th? Ran out at 6:00. Clock ran down to 5:50. Refs reset it to 6:36. Texas scores tying TD at 0:14. Do the math.

14. We got away with 1 defensive hold. One.
15. I had no problem with Lincoln’s 3rd down call to throw to Stog. That’s the kind of aggressive, play-to-win attack we’ve been crying for since Georgia. It was the right call and it should’ve worked. Same with FG. We have a great kicker, middle of field from 31. Right call.
16. The play call I did have a problem with was bailed out by a time out. The 4th and goal from the half yard line. Were we seriously going to drop back and throw it, or did Rattler think on his feet and do that after the whistle? That play would’ve been a disaster.
17. Sam Ehlinger is a baller. Texas is a mess. Loads of wasted talent over there. Ehlinger single-handedly willed Texas back into that game. He deserves credit as much as we say our D caved at the end. Big respect to that guy.
18. Who had a blocked punt, a blocked FG and a near punt return TD in the keys to victory? Also nice job by Brkic on the touchbacks. The shank aside, solid day by special teams. These are plays we needed the last 2 weeks. Difference between winning and losing.
19. The OK played much better yesterday. No holds. Big holes. Pledged played well sans the fumble. Major seems a little slow to the mesh, but other than that ran well. Add McGowan and Stevenson to the mix and i like our stable of backs a lot.
20. Hopefully our coaches have seen enough of real game time to know who can play and who should not be out there. I know you play like you practice, but do you? Not sure I truly believe that 100%.

21. Drake Stoops. Baller.
22. Just for fun, can we revisit the first series? Snap fraction, false start, pass for minus 5, and Bookie tackles punt returner before ball gets there. Side note, he needs to familiarize himself with either rules of football. Who had us losing 51-0 at that point?

23. Me
24. Can’t say enough about how our defense stepped it up in 3rd and 4th OT. I was tired as a fan. Sitting in AC. It’s so hard to step up and make plays when you’re exhausted. Major props to those guys for reaching down and finding enough to finish.

25. Gus loves him some Sam.
26. Boomer! Any win over Texas is the best. I have enough to go to 40, but I’ll quit there.
27. Oh one more thing, I’ve never been more excited for a bye week! #exhausted

Sleeping on It...thoughts from last nights loss to Iowa St.

1. That one followed the script of the Georgia loss. And yet another game we blew a double digit lead only to eek out a win or lose. Since that night in the Rose Bowl, OU has “blown” 10+ point leads 7 times, losing 4.
2. Some positives on defense. Effort. I saw a bunch of guys in the secondary playing hard. DL played better. More pressure, better at filling gaps. We could have had some game-changing series had we wrapped up or taken better angles at times.
3. The secondary had a rough night. And it’s frustrating when it’s against a team that couldn’t move the ball against Louisiana. Fields said after the game that there’s not much you can do when the receiver is 6-5. He’s not wrong. But you gotta look better doing it.

Sleeping on it.

Thoughts on yesterday’s 38-35 loss to KSU.

1. This is a thread you should skip.
2. Young team. Expected 2-3 Ls this year, just not yesterday.
3. Feels a little like 2005 at QB. Rattler looks great at times then loses composure a bit. He’s gonna be fine.
4. The D needs a playmaker. Texas was in a jam and made plays. We didn’t. No picks. No strips. We didn’t even try to block a punt. There will be games like this. Someone has to make a play to bail us out. We didn’t even really come close.
5. The OL will come together. I’m not even worried. Yet. But I’m not glossing over the fact that they were bad and it is disappointing that the same ole veterans keep drawing flags.

6. That’s fine if you opt out but I’m not voting for you to win that Don Key ever.

Sleeping on it.

Thoughts on OU’s 48-0 win over Missouri St.

1.Seth McGowan is our RB1
2.Spencer Rattler has a chance. A chance. To be better than Baker and Kyler. No predictions. But man he can spin it.
3.Chandler Morris is fast.

1/?
4.How did Chad McKee seem so unaware of the situation time and time again? Did OU muzzle him?
5.We gots receivers for days.
6.We have a really good backup kicker. CC: Florida St
7.Marvin Mims Junior. All American.
8.Who the heck is Mikey Henderson?

2/?
9.Huge miss by OU SID to leave broadcasters uninformed on inactive player situations. They came across very unprepared and perhaps like they were trying to protect players. I was embarrassed for McKee actually. If I’m him, I’m paying Mossman or Houck a visit Monday morning.

If OU let’s in 25% of its crowd, they should let in the super loud lady who sits a row behind me and about 6 seats over. She’ll more than make up for it. #Section9Karen
But seriously. Story time. One night, Section 9 Karen snapped. We were playing K State. Colin Quinn days. There was a play in the southeast corner of the EZ. Call went against us. Now, 9 is on NW side, and we are low. We have no business weighing in. She lost it. 1/2
Replay proved her wrong. K State touchdown. I swear most of 9 clapped just because it shut her up. Y’all she said terrible things about this ref and his family and his extremities and all that. And he was right. She may be the worst Ou fan ever. But I’m open to your stories.

If the Big 12 plays against the SEC in some form this season it will give everyone a false sense of what life would be in the SEC for teams like OU or Texas, should they move there in the future. Why? Because it’s the actual hypothetical of dropping OU into the a SEC coming true.
If OU did join the SEC in 2025, that would be announced, at the latest, in 2023. Internally, it would be known before. Recruiting for OU starting in 2022 would be “as an SEC team.” Ergo, OU’s defensive recruiting, for example, would likely improve, if being SEC helps.
However, just playing in the SEC in 2020 with no lead time will be a true “can OU (or texas, etc) hang with SEC teams right now on a longer term basis?” And the answer is probably no. OU maybe can. But still may lack that DL depth to go a full season. So, it’ll be interesting.
