Public school enrollment is down 2.8% in Washington state.
The enrollment dropped 14% from last year for kindergarten.

The system gets your children's education dollars regardless of how well it meets their needs

Candidate for Lt. Governor in NC:

"The parents are unaware of the things that need to be taught in certain grades. That is fine for a very educated parent [...] but the average parent trusts the school system to educate their children"
This is a paternalistic argument against school choice

The reality is that families know more about their children's needs than bureaucrats sitting in offices hundreds of miles away

Families also have stronger incentives to make good decisions for their own children.

Newport-Mesa Unified public schools were supposed to open in person on Monday

But the school board voted 5-1 yesterday to further delay reopening

Yet again, thousands of families are left scrambling at the eleventh hour.
It shouldn't surprise us that support for school choice is rising

The public school system is leaving families out to dry

And families are starting to demand their money back from that system.
Families are figuring out that there isn't any good reason to fund institutions when we can fund students directly instead.

K-12 public school staffing growth since 2000:

Teachers +8%
Principals/Asst. Principals +33%
Administrative Staff +75%
Student enrollment growth over the same period: +7%

Administrative staff grew over 10 times as fast as the number of students in public schools.

South Carolina Supreme Court just blocked the governor from funding students directly for K-12 education

The court ruled that would use public dollars to directly benefit private schools

But the state has two state-funded Pre-K programs that can be used at private institutions.
Why would anyone attack funding students directly at the K-12 level but not Pre-K or higher education?

It's simple: the power dynamics differ.

Funding students directly threatens a monopoly when it comes to K-12

But choice is already the norm when it comes to pre-K & higher ed
Here is one of the state-funded pre-K programs in South Carolina

Public dollars can be used by families to send their children to private institutions.

By the South Carolina Supreme Court's logic this program should be eliminated.
