/6 Project Big Picture published by the @EFL today shows that in return for the £250m in cash they need now, they are prepared to hand over control of English football to the big 6 Premier League clubs - this is a high price to pay, and I think a mistake. telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/…
/6 I believe these plans will effectively pull up the drawbridge on the top tier making it almost impossible for promoted clubs to establish themselves in the Premier League unless owned by the extremely wealthy.
/6 They make a European Super League which would diminish the value of domestic leagues, more likely. The top clubs will look to fill the gaps in the fixture list Project Big Picture creates with other more lucrative matches
/6 But whilst I don't think this is the best way forward it proposes something that football badly needs, which is proper independent, real time, financial oversight of clubs spending to make sure they are behaving both sustainably and within the rules.
/6 For months now I and others have been calling for a proper #gameplan to bail out professional football now, and put it on a more sustainable footing for the future. For the critics of these proposals, including @dcms the challenge now is to set out the alternative.
