How writing makes you smarter: A Monday thread.

1. Writing is a neuron-pumping activity that challenges your brain to translate shapeless ideas into logical, syntax-conforming sentences.

It’s mental gymnastics when you have to take a fuzzy concept and transform it into words.
2. It changes your vocabulary, as you have to find the right words that match up to your ideas.
3. It changes the way you speak, as it forces you to work on sentence structure, composition, and general idea communication...which informs the way you sound OFF the page as well.
4. It helps you understand yourself better, as you get to see your ideas translate from a vague concept inside your head to words and phrases on a page.

It forces you to externalize your inner monologue.
5. It strengthens your logos.

In Rhetoric, logos = logic.

As you write down your ideas, you’ll fine-tune how to logically present ideas as you sort through translating your thoughts into words.
5. (cont) If you think of an invisible reader as you write, you’ll be driven to write convincingly with logic-driven structure.

Again, you’ll challenge yourself to make sense of things, rather than leaving ideas as gray, ambiguous concepts inside your head.
6. So here’s my challenge for you:

I want you to set aside 15 minutes once a week to open up a notebook (or Google Doc) and write about an idea you have.

Pick something you’re really interested in or passionate about, and then explain why.
7. There are no grades.

No comment section for people to say, “Yeah, BUT…”
This is your mental exercise.

Try it out. Maybe even make it a weekly thing.

I think you’ll be surprised by all you get from it.

It's been a while since I've offered these, but now that we're in holiday prep mode, I'm offering website copy audits again!

Cost is $249 per page and comes with notes + a video walk-through with suggestions for optimization: kaleighmoore.gumroad.com/l/tnOJep
Even a minor improvement in conversion rates can drive hundreds (even thousands) of dollars in sales. You will make your money back (fast!) with this investment.

With a few tweaks on key pages, you can capture more of that holiday spending.
Past purchasers saw *incredible* results when they acted on my feedback.

9 copywriting tactics that leverage scarcity + psychology:
1. Copy emphasizing limited time offers/countdown timers.

Why is a countdown so effective? Because we hate losing. It's FOMO 101.

Loss aversion theory indicates losses can be 2x more painful than gains are pleasurable.
2. Copy related to next-day shipping offers.

By letting shoppers see how much time is left before they’ll miss out on next-day shipping, you can increase the urgency to purchase NOW.

Why should you turn your podcast episodes/YT videos into blog posts?

Let me share....
1. Most podcast hosts spend hours prepping, recording, + producing their episodes.

It’s a lot of work to create a professional-level podcast that attracts new listeners.

So why would invest so much time into creating original, top-notch material and leave it in one format?
2. Authors know their writing reaches more people when it's available in multiple formats (hello, audiobooks!)

So why isn’t your podcast following that approach, too?

The audio format isn’t everyone’s 1st choice, so it's wise to offer up a written version as well.

How to build a blog content strategy in 2022 if you're starting from scratch ⬇️
1. Before you even *think* about writing or reaching out to a writer, you have to define & document your overall marketing strategy.

This includes:
Identifying the target audience
Defining goals for your content
Document your brand style guide (helpful: kaleighmoore.com/products/edito…)
2. Once you have your strategy in place, next figure out what kind of content to blog about to drive traffic to your site + attention to your product.

How? Ask your audience.

You may think you already know what they want, but I bet there are some surprises if you survey them.

Everybody has a reason they don’t write as much as they like to.

267 people told me that when it comes to reasons for not writing, they fall into one of four main buckets:

⌛️Takes too long
⁉️Not sure what to write
📛I’m not good at it
🕐No time
Time was an issue for nearly half (48%) of the people who responded.

Even professional writers said they struggle with this: Bogged down with client work, they never get around to writing their own pieces.
When I asked people if they’d ever considered bringing on help to build these out, almost every single one said the same thing: No.

Why? Because...

“I don’t have the time to train a writer; it’d be faster just to do it myself and I don’t have time for that either.”

Marketers: Want to get more out of your content marketing investment?

Quick thread. 🧵
1. You MUST have a documented strategy. Hire a pro, or use a template like this one. adriennebarnes.podia.com/saas-content-s…

Without a documented point of reference with goals, benchmarks, personas, etc., content often lacks consistency and isn't objective-oriented.

Result = wasted time + $.
2. Get granular. Make sure beyond a high-level strategy, you have documentation around your company style guide, writing voice, and general dos/don'ts.

This includes an onboarding deck for new team members. Saves time and boosts consistency.
