Seattle has built a pretty slick coronavirus testing system... Here's an overview for folks who aren't familiar:
Last night at almost midnight, I determined that I needed a covid test. I went online, chose one of several city-run testing sites and registered for a time slot.
When I arrived at the appointment, there were others checking in but no line. They verified my info, then sent me along to one of the testers. He stabbed my brain twice.
I was done 3 minutes after I had arrived to the parking lot.
Results should be available online within 24 hours, accessible via a QR code or alphanumeric code.
And, perhaps most importantly, the test costs nothing for patients.
Testing is free even if you don't have symptoms. They encourage testing for people who "may" have been exposed to an infected person. I have no symptoms but informed them that I have been out in a lot of large crowds lately.
NEW: After a federal task force gunned down antifa activist Michael Reinoehl last month, Attorney General Bill Barr reported that Reinoehl was shot after he had "produced" a gun.
But it turns out the gun was found in Reinoehl’s pocket.
None of the four law enforcement agencies on scene captured video of the killing. But we spoke to 22 people in the area, including five people who were outside with a vantage point of the scene. Here’s what they saw when the shooting began.
“I respect cops to the utmost, but things were definitely in no way, shape or form done properly," said Garrett Louis, a witness who was on the street and had to rush to get his child out of the line of fire.
Lori Abrams came down with a Black Lives Matter sign and is walking solo towards the event. She's continuing even after others warned her that it is dangerous.
It's about a 20-minute walk to a nearby event organized by Black activists. There are about 200 gathered, listening to a speech about the history of Vanport, where many Black families moved as part of the shipbuilding effort of World War 2.
I'm in Portland, where there are maybe 200 people who have gathered for a Proud Boys event. The crowd has surrounded a couple people who they believe to be Antifa, and they are chasing them away.
Some of the Proud Boys and people from the Three Percenters militia group surrounded a person with a camera. They said the man was Antifa and tried to kick him out. Then others intervened and said the videographer was OK. Others said the crowd was acting just like Antifa.
A half-dozen Portland police officers have arrived to cool things down and ask the Proud Boys to leave others alone.
Two of the police officers are wearing hats with a yellow "P" on the front. One says it's a police union hat but said people have told him "nice hat."
I'm back out in the Portland suburbs, where many hundreds are gathering for another pro-Trump caravan. People are still arriving, but I've already seen some Proud Boys, some Qanon proponents, and folks from the Three Percenters militia group.
The group has gathered further away from the city than last weekend's event, and leaders have said they do not plan to go into Portland.
(That said, the last event wasn't slated to go downtown but ended up going there anyway.)
The caravan is starting to move. No counterprotesters on scene.
